View All/Default View

GS

I prefer to see all projects at once. I can do that with the "View All Projects" option, but every time I add a new task to a project, it defaults to showing only that project, requiring me to select "View All Projects" yet again.

Any way to make that the default view? Alternately, if that doesn't seem worth implementing, how about saved searches you could access with a single click (as opposed the three clicks it takes now)? That seems like a premium worthy feature I'd pay for.

Thanks.

Hello Grover.

Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate it and we'll consider implementing such changes in the future. You're welcome to vote for this request in our Votebox: http://todoist.com/Vote/showProposal/151/

For now, you could set the default view in Todoist's Settings -> General (choose "Custom query" in the "Start page" section), but if you add a task to a project using the Quick Add feature, it will still redirect you to the list of tasks of the target project or, if the task has a due date - a list of tasks scheduled for that date as a reference.

Best regards,
David

Thanks for the help. FWIW, this was the very first time I've found the Settings page, because every time you click the little gear and settings in the desktop app, it would take me to this page instead.

I honestly didn't think there were any settings.

Thanks again for the reply.

Grover,

Please tell me - were you logged into Todoist through the web before you've used the Settings option in the Windows app?

David

I can't say with any real certainty, but probably not since I don't really use the website. I can say that now that I am logged in, when I choose Settings from the app it just takes me to the web view of my lists. So I still have to click on the gear a second time (now in the browser) and choose settings again to view my settings.

And just to be clear, I'm using the Mac app.

I too would like to see an option to have the default view be All Projects. (I am using the Firefox plugin in Windows at the moment). My workaround was to turn all my separate projects into tasks under one project, so that there is only one project. NOT ideal. Way too many clicks to get to the overall list of projects/tasks and super annoying to have it go back to just one project or task whenever you add something new.

Hello Stephanie,

If you want to see all projects as your default view, please go to Todoist's Settings -> General Settings and in the "Start page" section, choose "custom query" from the drop-down menu and type "va" (or "viewall").

David

I kind of dig Todoist, but I honestly can't use it unless/until it has an option to default the view to "all projects." Defeats the concept of a productivity tool if I have to keep clicking through a multi-step process just to get to my ground zero.

Hello Daniel,

You can set your default view to all projects anytime. To do so, simply click on the gear icon in the top-right corner to go to Settings -> General Settings and from the "Start page" drop-down menu choose "Custom query" and set it to "viewall".

From now on, each time you open Todoist, you'll see all your projects at one.

David

The custom query that works is "view all" (two words, no quotes), not "viewall".

Hello Frances,

All these 3 options should work correctly:

view all
viewall
va

Hey David,

That shows me by date -- not by project. Where did the "view all" functionality go? That's literally the only reason I used todoist over other task apps!

Thanks for your help,

Kacey

Kacey,

Searching for "view all" shows you all your tasks, by project. Are you saying when you type that into the search box, it does not list your projects?

Regards,
Brendon.

Wow -- thanks for your quick reply. Yup -- when I type view all it shows me my projects by date. I may be a little slow on the tech-savvy front...but todoist has always been so so simple to use, really setting it apart from other apps.

Hey Brendon,

I just restarted my browser and tried to change the setting again, and now it's working. Whatever you did..... =)

Thanks also for the quick reply. I wasn't expecting such attentive customer service. Thanks!

Start Page does not work on ios.

I hate the Today view, clicking through several pages to get to my action list is killing the utility of having a mobile version for me.

RC,

You can save custom filters on the iOS app, which would help you with re-creating your startpage. We will of course hope to sync the startpage in the future.

Brendon.

I really want a query to view ALL UNFINISHED TASKS by date, *not* Project...

Use the ical link and import it into google calendar. Then in gcal go to this list view. That should give you what you want.

Brendon

Please do it!

I'm in the same boat with Daniel. My start page is set to "view all", just waiting for it to actually work work as a, you know, a start page.

You advertise yourself as GTD compatible but this new Today view business is not a part of GTD and should be disable-able by folks who don't want it.
