Trouble getting started...

First I installed free version on my PC. There, I clicked on settings and it took me to my browser where I tried to install but the thing is going in circles, doing nothing. Please get me going before I get discouraged and go elsewhere...

Hello Bob,

Please clarify - what did you try to install on the browser - one of our browser plugins? If so - for which browser and what exactly happened if you tried to do so.

I clicked on Setting in ToDoist on my PC and that took me to my browser. Trying to reconstruct where I was last night, with same browser windows still open I hit the back button and get a login screen, I click login with google account and it yields the same result, your logo at top and three buttons below it blinking on and off. You ask what did I try to install, well I think it was a Get the App - It's Free button.

Right now, after killing the browser window that's going in circles, I repeat hitting the setting icon in the ToDoist PC window, that takes me to a menu including Settings which I select. At that point a browser window opens (Firefox v 17) and I'm back to the same point, only the ToDoist logo displaying with three buttons below blinking.

I'm trying to compare ToDoist versus Taskline. I like ToDoist for the multiple platforms I can access, but I like Taskline for the way it integrates with Outlook calendar. Please help me get the ToDoist experience so I can compare!

Hello Bob,

Please clarify - are you referring to this app: http://todoist.com/windows ?

For the purpose of reproducing the issue, please do not open this app, instead - open just your browser window then click Ctrl+Shift+P to enter "private browsing mode", then go directly yo http://todoist.com click on the "Log in" link in the top-right corner and if you've created your Todoist account using your GMail account, click on the "Log in with GMail" button, if you've created your Todoist account manually, type the Gmail and password combination info the email/password fields.

At this point, you will see the Loading screen for a short while (depending on the number of tasks that you have it may take a couple of seconds).

Please confirm if at this point the page will load eventually.

I followed your instructions exactly, after I signed off the ToDoist window running on my PC (not browser), and still got the same results. Am I correct that I should have an application on my PC and also be able to run ToDoist in my browser? The latter is not working. I get the same results when I select Settings in the PC app, perhaps because it's trying to take my to the browser version to view/ change settings.

Bob,

Todoist doesn't require having any application. Todoist is a web-app and all our apps and plugins simply connect to the web-app.

Again, please do not open our desktop app, but open the browser instead. Then type this URL to the bar at the top: http://todoist.com and on the page which you will see click on the "Login" link in the top-right corner, then type the email/password combination you've used when signing up for a Todoist account and let me know if it works.

I just right clicked on your web link http://todoist.com and clicked "open in new window". I didn't even get a page with a login button, it just went to a page with your logo and the three flashing buttons under it with "http://todoist.com/app?v=77" in the address bar.

Should I uninstall the PC app? Until I rebooted the window wouldn't close. Not sure what this app is for if I'm supposed to access ToDoist via browser.

Bob,

You don't need to use the app from a browser, I asked you to do this only for the purpose of identifying the source of the issue you're experiencing and also allowing you to access the Settings which are indeed only available through the browser.

Please tell me - did you use Internet Explorer to connect? Could you try to use a different browser (Chrome or Firefox)? We've noticed an issue which we're working on right now that may indeed cause the problem you've described if using Internet Explorer as the default browser.

Again - you'll be able to use only the app and access the settings through IE anytime once we fix this issue. We're very sorry for the inconvenience.

I'm using Firefox 17.0.1.

Did you really mean to say that I must use IE to access settings, or did you mean to say whatever browser is my default?

Bob,

Todoist is a web-application which regardless of what plugin or app you use, connects to your task list through the web which enables great accessibility as you can see your tasks through any plugin, mobile app etc.

However, some features require accessing the web and one of them are the settings, therefore when you choose "Settings" through the Windows app, you will be redirected to the web version and the Settings windows will open.

We've tried to reproduce the issue you're experiencing multiple times to no avail. If you're using Firefox, please open the browser, click Ctrl+Shift+P which will access "Private browsing mode", then (in this mode) go to todoist.com, log in and let em know if it works. If it does, you can go to the settings using the gear icon in the top-right corner.

I can't even get to the todoist.com website. When I type that in the address bar, it goes to the address "http://todoist.com/app?v=81" and displays only the todoist logo and the three blinking buttons. The rest of this sparse page functions, like the link to support. If I click on the link "@Doist, it takes me to the address "doist.io" that looks like it might be your home page. There I found an extension for Firefox which I installed successfully (?) It put a TD logo button in my browser. When I click that button I get a split screen with a TD window to the left, three buttons blinking as if processing underway, but nothing happens after that.

Surely you can give me a clue what's going wrong here. I checked for blocked web sites, but nothing there for TD. I found cookies installed for TD and deleted them before I installed the Firefox extension.

Bob,

The Loading screen with the three animated bars can be displayed for up to 10-20 seconds depending on how many tasks you have on your account. If it won't load after that time, them please try to do the following (in Firefox):
- Go to Options -> Advanced -> Network tab and remove todoist.com from the list of sites storing offline data, then use both "Clear Now" buttons there - to clear the offline app data and the cache.
- Then go to the Privacy tab (also in the Options window), choose "Custom settings for history" from the drop-down menu and make sure that both first- and third-party cookies are being accepted.

After that, reload the browser and try to go to todoist.com again. Note - it's correct that you're being redirected to http://todoist.com/app?v=81 at this point the browser should ask you if you want to allow Todoist to store offline data in your browser. If it does - choose "Allow".

Thanks David. I followed your instructions and maybe got a little further than before...at the end when I went to todoist.com I got the question on allowing storing offline data (which I never received before) and answered "allow". Unfortunately, I was then back to the same logo and the three flashing buttons that never ends.

I'm sure you're tired of my problem and so am I. I'll look for another program, maybe Taskline and Toodledo.

I'm sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, we can't reproduce this issue under any circumstance.

Please tell me:
- How long are you waiting for the page to load?
- How many tasks do you have on your account?
- Are you using any software that may monitor network activity, block certain applications, force HTTPS connections etc.? Are you accessing Todoist at work when some software may be locked?
