No longer minimizes to system tray
Yesterday the todoist windows app automatically updated.
Before the update, it used to minimize to the System Tray instead of the TaskBar. After the update it stays on the TaskBar and the System Tray and can only be closed by right clicking on the system tray icon and choosing Quit. Can you please fix it so that it stays off of the TaskBar when minimized? I like not being able to easily close it, so I see that as a feature.
Correction to my last post - The previous version would also only close by choosing Quit from the System Tray icon, so the change that I see with the new version is that it now stays on the TaskBar and in the System Tray even when minimized.
When you use the minimize "_" or close "X" button on the app, it will always continue to stay in the system tray so that the global keyboard shortcuts allowing you quick opening and quick task adding will work.
If you right-click on the tray icon and choose "Configuration" you can reassign them. By default: Ctrl+Alt+T shows/hides the plugin and Ctrl+Alt+A opens the Quick Add feature even if the Todoist window is closed.
Please clarify what behavior would you prefer - closing the app using the "X" button (in which case we couldn't use global shortcuts) or assigning the minimize button to hide the app on the task bar and the X button to hide it to the system tray?
I would like it if when Minimized, it only stayed in the System Tray and not also on the Task Bar. I do like that I can't accidentally close it with the "X".
I've been able to reproduce this issue now with the latest version 1.9, I will pass it to the developers and we will address it in the next updates.
We've released a new version of our Windows app in which the minimize/close behavior has been changed. Close will close the app completely and you can configure the behavior of the minimize button the context menu in the system tray icon (you can choose to minimize it to the task bar or the system tray). Please uninstall the old one through the Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs (or "Programs & Features"), then download and install the new version from http://todoist.com/windows
David, Thanks for the fix. It's nice using a product that is being enhanced on a regular basis.
Once it's minimized to the Notification Area, is the only way to open it, click on the icon, then choose Show/Hide or use the shortcut? Can it be made to dbl-click to open?
A small thing - when it's set to "minimize to notification area", can the "X" be disabled. I used to be able to click on the X to get it out of the way, now I keep closing it completely. If not, I'll just have to get used to clicking on the _ instead of the X.
Yes, the only way to open the app from the notification area is to click on the tray icon and choose "Show/Hide or use the keyboard shortcut.
As for disabling the X button or letting it hide the app to the system tray - you're welcome to add a request to our Votebox and we may consider it in future development: http://todoist.com/Vote/
