My tasks disappeared

I

I've just downloaded Todoist for Android, it was working fine. I put many projects and many tasks in each one of them, and suddenly my tasks disappeared. My projects are still here, but all my tasks were deleted.

First, I tried to log out and log in again, and then my projects were deleted too. I went to Todoist website, but I had the same problem, no tasks at all (empty projects were there).

Why was everything suddenly deleted? How can I have my tasks back?

Hello Isabel,

Please tell me:
- Did you download the app through this site: http://todoist.com/android ?
- Were you online when you've added these tasks?
- Did you try synchronize the changes?
- Can you remember what was the last thing you did when your tasks disappeared (did you add something, edited or removed)?

Also, please note that if you've used your Google Account to sign-up, but had a different Todoist account already, this would create a new empty account.

Best regards,
David

Hi, David,

1) yes, I got the link from Todoist in my e-mail account and downloaded it (but then my cellphone redirected me to Google Play Store)
2) Yes, I was online with 3G in my cellphone.
3) I tried to sync, but even Todoist website lost my tasks.
4) Before I had everything deleted, I was editing my tasks and putting due dates in many of them.

My Google Account is the only one in Todoist.
Now I tried to uninstall the app, but I cannot download it again (the website doesn't send me the link anymore)

Isabel,

Please try to go to http://todoist.com/m and let me know if you can see your tasks there. Alternatively, try to use a different browser than you normally use (and have never accessed Todoist through it) and see if your tasks can be found there.

Best regards,
David

Hello David,

it just experienced exactly the same problem.
The only difference: I was offline when I generated the tasks. When I came home, I connected through WiFi and everything seemed to sync and was just fine. Then I opened the Android app some minutes later and all the tasks I had generated offline were gone. Including a series of labes I also generated online after having hooked up to the WiFi.

Website and todoist.com/m show identical information, with tasks gone.

I also downloaded the App through the Google Play, as the ad is displayed when requesting the app. I now reinstalled it through the email-link; let's see how this goes.

Up to now, your service really convinced me. But this incident will make me a lot more cautious for the moment, not relying me too much on the apps and website.

I'll keep you posted on how it goes.

Regards,
Sebastian

Hello Sebastian,

We're sorry to hear that, we've placed numerous mechanisms to prevent any data loss and it's technically impossible for the app to delete tasks on its own.

It's a very serious issue and we would appreciate if you could provide as detailed information as possible about the circumstances in which it occurred. For example - when you've connected to the network, did you press the sync icon on the mobile app and then started adding new tasks or added them first and then resynced everything? Which tasks are gone? Those added offline, those added online or all of them?

Also, to make sure it's not a caching issue, please try to go to http://todoist.com through a different browser - one you haven't used with Todoist before. Try to search for one of the missing labels (type @labelname with the name of the label into the search box).

Best regards,
David

Hello David,

I will try my best as I was not able to reproduce it up to now. Which is good ;-D

In the office, I am using the Windows app, on my cel the Android app is installed and some things I do on the website.
Yesterday I created several tasks and projects on the Windows app. There I was online all the time.
After that I left the office and created additional tasks on the phone. Wireless was turned on, but no network available. And 3G was off. That means I worked offline.
At the end of the day I came home and hooked up to wireless again. And added another series of tasks from the Android phone. Each time I added a task, the little circle of arrows started to spin and I believed it was synching. I did not initiate a manual sync. All tasks I added from the phone (offline and later online) showed up fine, until I closed the app on the phone. When I opened it again, all was basically back to what I had done in the office from the Windows app. And unfortunately consistent between the Android (with lost tasks) and website. I also checked the cache issue which is described in other posts, but no success to recover anything.

At the end, I uninstalled the app from the phone and downloaded it again from the website (which leads back to Google Play), but I believe that the same day you released the Android app 0.6 and previously I had 0.5.something. So maybe this also helps.

Up to now, I entered everything again, yesterday night directly through the website and today some things through Android and Windows and up to now everything seems to be ok.

If you need any more detail, just let me know.

Regards,
Sebastian

Sebastian,

Thank you for this information, I have one more question - did you at any point log into the Android app using the "Log in through Google Account" option? If your Todoist account has not been set up this way then using this option created a new Todoist account. If you then used a different login method and typed in your email/password combination manually, then you might have logged into the previous account where the data you've entered wasn't there.

David

no, never set anything up with a Google account.
