Password Issues

U

Hello, I can log in to Todoist on the web with no problems, but when I try logging in on the iPhone app, I keep getting a "Log In
Failed" message, saying "please check your email and password and try again". I even tried resetting my password, but still can't log in on the iPhone app. Is there something I'm doing incorrectly?

Regards,

Damion

Hello Damion,

Please tell me - did you set up your Todoist account with your Google Account?

If so, please go to Todoist's Settings -> Account and try to set a new password to it and then use your GMail address in combination with the newly set password to log into the iPhone app.

Best regards,
David

Hello,

I followed your instructions, and still cannot get into the iPhone app. I reset my password (have already done this twice), and can access the web app with no problems, but the iPhone app keeps giving me a login error. Very frustrating.

Damion,

We're sorry for the inconvenience. Could you please let me know if you're using the Gmail login? Did you set up your Todoist account with your GMail account? Are you trying to log in to the app with your Google account?

Best regards,
David

Hi David,

I initially set up an account through the iPhone app, not using the special "login with your Gmail account" header. I do use my Gmail account for Todoist, but just set it up as any other e-mail address. What happened was I couldn't get Todoist alarms to work for any of my reminders on the iPhone (and also couldn't get afternoon times to display in 12 hour format), so I deleted the app, and tried to redownload it. Ever since I redownloaded it, I can't access Todoist from my iPhone; the app won't let me log in.

Thanks

Damion

Damion,

The push-notifications may not work yet, but we're working on activating them right now. Sorry for the inconvenience.

As for the login issues - you're using the exact same email/password combination with the iPhone app as with the wep-app? If so, I will forward this issue to the developers.

Best regards,
David

David,

Yes, I am using the exact same email/password combination for both. I have reset it a few times, and can access the web app with no problems, but can't use the iPhone app. Should I completely delete my account on the web, and try to start over?

Also, with regards to push notifications, do they only work with premium accounts? Is there any way to change the clock so it shows 12 hour time for afternoon appointments instead of 24 hour time?

Thanks.

Damion,

Yes, you could try to set up a new Todoist account and let us know if the issue would persist on the new accoutn as well. Try to set up the account through the web interface.

All reminders incl. push notifications are a Premium-only feature. We're investigating the issue regarding the 12/24-hour clock.

Best regards,
David

I'll give that a shot, and let you know. That's really a shame that you can't have reminders in the free version.

I have the same problem: I can't log in the new iPhone app. The message is "please check your email and password and try again". But the email and the password are correct.

FYI, I don't have a Google account. I have a Todoist premium account.

Ok, so I had to completely delete my Todoist web account, and then recreate a new one on my iPhone, and it seems to be working now. I'm going to hold off creating any tasks to see if it continues to work throughout the day so I don't lose them again if I have to delete my account.

Given I'm new to Todoist and have been having these problems since yesterday, this experience hasn't instilled a lot of confidence in using Todoist as my primary task manager. I would like to see if there is a free trial period where I can try the Premium account? Without alarms (reminders) for my tasks, Todoist won't be a viable solution for me, and since they aren't available in your free version, making an accurate assessment of Todoist isn't really possible, especially given all the troubles I've had with just trying to log in from the mobile app..

Damion

Damion,

We're very sorry for the inconvenience, this is an issue most likely related to our new iPhone app which was released yesterday, we will investigate this bug and fix it ASAP. We can assure you that none of your data will ever be lost on Todoist and you'll never need to recreate your account. Once we fix this issue, you should be able to log in using your old account as well.

You've been given 1 month of Todoist Premium, we hope you like it and will continue to use our service.

Best regards,
David

@Damion: I'm a Todoist premium Mac & iPhone & iPad user since sept 2011 and Todoist is the most reliable todolist app I tried (I used more than 12 app). I'm using Todoist for personnal and pro lists.

David,

Ok, so it gets even better. I just got to work and saw the followup comments here and tried to access the Premium features on my iPhone, i.e. syncing. Well, the app still showed me as a non premium user. I logged out of the iPhone app, and then tried to log back in thinking this would resolve it, and am now back to the whole "log in failed" password issue and cannot get into my Todist account from the iPhone. Grrrrrrr!!! Any ETA when this will be fixed?

While I appreciate the good customer support at Todoist, I'm admittedly really frustrated with the iPhone app implementation; it's not a good first (second, third, and fourth) impression.

Damion,

Based on another Customer's report, the issue could be related to using special characters within the password. If you're using them, please try to temporarily change the password to a word without special characters and let us know if it helps.

David

David,

I just changed my password (again) to a different one without special characters, and was able to successfully access Todoist through the iPhone app; thank you so much.

One question though, I have a task created for 7:00 pm on the webapp (which displays fine), however on the iPhone app, it displays as "19:00". Is there a way to change the 24 hour display on the iPhone app?

Damion,

We're investigating the issue with the 24/12-hour clock display. Sorry for the inconvenience.

For now, please try to log in to the web-app, go to Settings (gear icon in top-right corner) and check if you have the 12-hour format selected in the General Settings.

Best regards,
David

Hi, I do have the webapp set to 12 hour time; it displays fine on the web. On the iPhone app however, the time is displayed in 24-hour format.

Thanks.

Regarding the login issue - could you please specify what special characters did you use in your password before?

Hi David, I had a # sign in my old password that was giving me all the problems.

BTW, I tried setting a test reminder earlier, and nothing happened. Isn't there supposed to be an alarm and banner that goes off on the iPhone?

Damion,

Thank you for this information. As for the push-notifications, we're working on activating them right now as there seems to be an issue with this service in the moment.

One other issue: in the settings I tried to have Todoist send me a test SMS, however I could not get it to work -- never received an SMS after multiple attempts.

Damion,

Please tell me:
- Did you set your phone number in the correct format, that is - incl. country and area code without spaces, for example: +48123456789 ?
- Did you try to choose all three outgoing SMS providers (the US host and two Canadian hosts)?
- Did you select "International (or not in list below)" in the "Mobile provider" section?

If none of this helps, please send your full phone number to david@doist.io and we'll contact our SMS provider about this issue.

Best regards,
David

Chiming in here, I also had to change my password to a short 16-char password with no special characters for it to work.
