Delete completed tasks
When I pull up tasks, the list includes completed tasks, and at the bottom of the screen I select the option "Delete Completed Tasks" - I get the pop-up asking if I'm sure and I click "OK" - yet all my completed tasks remain on the screen. Please advise...
we can't reproduce this issue. Please try to log out, clear your browser's cahce and offline storage data, reload the browser and log back in.
If this won't help, please tell me:
- Which browser are you using?
- Can you reproduce this issue in at least 1 different browser (if so - which one)?
- Are you using any ad- or script-blocking plugins?
Thanks for the timely response. In answer to your questions:
1) Initially I was using IE for my browser
2) I have now used Firefox and Chrome - when selecting "Delete Completed Tasks", answering "Yes" to the are you sure window - and yet all my completed tasks still appear :(
3) To the best of my knowledge, I do not have any ad or script-blocking plug-ins.
Outside of deleting all my completed tasks one at a time - not sure what to do. Please advise.....
unfortunately, we still can't reproduce this issue. Could you please do the following:
1. Use Chrome to access Todoist.
2. Click Ctrl+Shift+J to open the Console.
3. Go to the "Network" tab.
4. Click on "Get completed tasks" then "Delete completed" and confirm.
Now, please confirm if the following happened:
- When you've clicked on "Get completed tasks", an event called "getMoreHistory" from the /items path should appear in the "Network" tab with the method "POST". Did this happen? Does the status show "200 OK"?
- When you confirm the deletion of the history items with OK, an event called "deleteCompleted" through the /items path should appear in the "Network" tab. Did this happen? Does the status show "200 OK"?
Followed instructions above; Answer to both questions = Y
1) I use Several projects with "sub" projects (indented) up to 2 levels of indention; same with tasks within those projects.
2) I'm "syncing" with an iPad, and Outlook on two separate computers depending upon my physical location, as well as working directly in the ToDoist.com site (don't have access to notes in the iPad app - would be nice to "fix" that). I do my best to make sure that I am logged into only one of those at a time (ie. logoff from the iPad app when moving to one of the Outlook files, logout of Outlook when going directly to website, etc.)
It seems that I have to do the "Get Completed Tasks" for each individual Project/Sub-project....not convenient (would like a "Get ALL completed tasks option), but I'll work with it. However, I have discovered that the issue we've been working on seems to be specific to only 2 particular sub-projects (Office Administration & Minister's Team) where the tasks that I have checked as completes don't seem to be "moving" to the completed tasks "file" if you will, so when I select "Get completed tasks", those tasks aren't selected. The system doesn't seem to recognize them as complete.
In every other project/sub-project, it seems to be working correctly.
I know this has been a lengthy issue & reply, and I truly appreciate you seeing this through with me. This task management application has been the best I have found in meeting my daily activity needs as my schedule is 98% task driven - not appointment driven.

just to clarify - the completed tasks in the two sub-projects you're referring to are listed as completed (visible after clicking on the "Get completed tasks" link) or do they still appear checked off and grayed out on the task list itself?
Please note that if these are sub-tasks and they're still on the main task list then the will not be removed until they actually end up the the completed list which they will only if you hold down the SHIFT key while checking them off or choose "Move to history" from the right-click menu.
If that's not the case and these tasks are on the bottom list, it could be very helpful if you could send me a screenshot of these completed tasks to email@example.com as it's theoretically possible that maybe some of their content might cause an issue, for example - use of certain special characters etc.

Ta-Dah!!! All I needed was a little deeper trainin'!! Thanks again. Holding down the shift key when completing sub-tasks.......didn't know I had to do that... :) (or right-click & "move to history"). OPERATOR ERROR, my bad - but thanks so much for schooling me! When I did the right thing, then the "Delete Completed Tasks" did the right thing as well. Thanks again for laboring with me through this - I appreciate your patience.
Yes I ran into this same issue and wasn't aware that in order to move completed tasks in a sub project pressing the "shift" key "right clicking" is required. It's not the most intuitive or apparent part of this well done application.
Using Shift and right-clicking is not a shortcut supported by Todoist. Please clarify what action did you want to perform exactly?
Moving tasks from one project to another, regardless of whether it's a sub-project or a main project can be done in 3 ways:
1. Using the drag & drop feature - hover over a task to see a handle icon on the left. "Grab" a task by this icon and you'll be able to drag & drop it to a different project.
2. Right-clicking on a task - simply right-click on it and choose "Move to another project".
3. Multi-selecting - this can be done by left-clicking on tasks while holding the CTRL key (Shift could be used as an alternative) which will show a menu at the top with options that can be performed on all selected tasks.
Please let me know which option you're referring to so I can provide you with the easiest solution.
Sorry I stated that wrong. I meant in order to "delete" a completed sub project task. The same problem as the original question that this thread is about.
I didn't know that pressing the shift key while checking the check box of a sub project task would remove it history. I also didn't know that "right clicking" and selecting move it to history did the same thing. When I click the check box for a completed project task I didn't understand that it was moving it to history as it disappeared. I understood it was moving it to "completed tasks" but I wasn't aware of all of this. Thanks.
