losing recent edits bug

M

Occasionally I find that I do some edits to my tasks but then a while later I find I have lost the edits - I assume this is something to do with the online/offline syncing feature that seems to have appeared recently -

Hello,

it's possible, but only if you use Todoist offline or access it through mobile devices and don't synchronize the changes before you access your list through a different channel.

Please clarify - does this issue also occur if you manually sync the changes and then access Todoist from a different place?

Best regards,
David

I only ever use todoist from a single device (my laptop) - my IP address changes though if that makes any difference

The only thing I have noticed that is different recently is that occasionally IIRC I get a message saying something along the lines that changes could not be saved & that they will be done offline & saved later

I assume this is a relatively new feature as I only recall seeing it fairly recently ?

Are the offline edits not being saved ? - if so what would be the reason for this ? - if I disconnected from the internet before the changes were saved & then reconnected changing my IP address would this cause the problem ?

Hello,

this issue should not occur because of a different IP or disconnecting before saving the changes. Even if you're offline, all changes are stored in your browser's cache (offline storage) and the next time you connect or sync them, they should be saved properly.

The only options for this not to work, would be:
- using different browsers and making some changes with one browser and then with another without syncing,
- clearing the offline data storage before syncing,
- using any browser plugins which may influence the permissions to store offline data or the networking itself (ad-blockers, script-blockers, network "boosters").

Please tell me, if you see this message and the small triangle icon appears in the upper-right corner (next to the "# Completed" link), do you click on it to force a sync? Also - are you using only one browser? If so - which one?

Best regards,
David

- using different browsers and making some changes with one browser and then with another without syncing

I only ever use firefox

- clearing the offline data storage before syncing,

the caches are cleared when I shutdown firefox -
I have modified my firefox settings to not delete the cache or offline web site data although I dont particularly like doing this

I have also been having problems with firefox eating up memory recently so I have done a manual cache clear once or twice but have not been doing it regularly - I will be avoid this from now on

- using any browser plugins which may influence the permissions to store offline data or the networking itself (ad-blockers, script-blockers, network "boosters").

I use ad blocker so I have now turned it off for todoist.com
- can my 'flash player' storage settings affect todoist ?

- Please tell me, if you see this message and the small triangle icon appears in the upper-right corner (next to the "# Completed" link), do you click on it to force a sync?

I dont really undertand this last bit - all I ever recall seeing occasionally is some animated bars which I assume is some sort of save is being done - on rare occasions it will then say unable to sync so going offline (does the triangle appear at this point ?) - I didnt know you could click on something to force a sync so I will try this out if I can figure out when & what I should click on

Hello,

basically, the auto-cache clear option should not cause these issues as it only clears the actual cache and not the application data and offline storage data. To make sure that's the case - check if todoist.com is on the list of applications storing offline data. This list can be found in Firefox's Options -> Advanced -> Network tab at the bottom. Also - what version of Firefox are you using? The latest (and recommended) is 15.0.1.

As for the triangle icon - at the place where you see the animated bars in the top-right corner, if Todoist goes offline for some reason a small orange triangle will appear notifying that you're in offline mode. Clicking of it will trigger and attempt to sync the data and if it succeeds, the icon will disappear. You could try to use it by accessing Todoist and then manually disconnecting.

Your flash player storage settings have no influence on this case. One more thing that could be the source of these issues could be an intensive network usage. For example, if you're downloading files while using Todoist or for some reason the connection is not fully stable and a different application uses all your bandwidth, it could theoretically affect the browser's performance and cause such problems.

Please let me know if disabling the ad-blocker plugin and manual sync in case the app goes offline solve this issue. If so - you could then try to add todoist.com and cloudflare.net (Amazon Web Service's server - our host) to the list of exceptions in the ad-blocker and re-enable it.
