Can't set date

S

When I create a task and put in 'tom' it changes it to '2. Sep 2012' and when I hit enter it will not accept what it changed it to.

Whenever I try to change it back to 'tom' it auto converts it so I can't save it. I used to get around this by saving as 'tod' then changing the date on the task but since today (start of Sept?) that will not work either. Help!

Thanks

Hello Scott,

unfortunately, I can't reproduce this issue. Please try to log out of Todoist, clear your browser's cache and offline storage data, reload the browser and log back in.

If this won't help, please tell me:
- Which browser are you using?
- Can you reproduce this issue in at least 1 different browser (if so - which one)?
- Where and how exactly are you experiencing this issue (in project view, in a search result, in a new task or existing task, using "Add task" or "Quick Add" etc.)?

Best regards,
David

I cleared my cache in Chrome & logged out & in.

I also had the same issue in IE 9 when I tried that.

This happens when I'm in Today & Overview view.

I have a screen shot I can share with you.

After I type in 'tom' it switches the view to Priority view.
When I type in 'tom' the view is Priority 2 items, when I type in 'tod' it is Priority 1 items. I believe due to the date (today = 9/1, tom = 9/2). I believe this has only become an issues since starting to schedule into Sept.

Thanks for your help

Scott,

please send a screenshot to david@doist.io

It would also be very helpful if you could describe step-by-step the process which triggers this issue, for example:
- I type "today, overdue" in the search box,
- I edit a task due xx/xx
- I type "tom" to the due date box of this task
- I press Enter to save the change
etc.

So far, I can't reproduce this issue in Chrome or Firefox.

Best regards,
David

-On the 'today screen' I hit ctrl + q or the new task button (same result on both)
-i type in the task
-hit tab to go to the date assignment
-type in 'tom' & hit enter
-it changes the screen to priority 2 items in the background screen & changes the date to '2. Sep 2012'

The only way I get around this is my manually entering in 9/2 which is starting to become a pain in the ass as I go through lots of tasks.

Thanks for the email address, will send the screen shot now

Scott,

thank you for this information and the screenshot. Unfortunately, I still can't reproduce this issue following the exact steps as you've described.

When I type tom in the date field using the Quick Add feature and hit enter, I get redirected to the "tomorrow" view and the task is due tomorrow. I've tried in Firefox 15.0 and Chrome 21.0.1180.89

Please tell me:
- Is the correct time zone selected in Todoist Preferences -> General (it also must be the same timezone as selected on your computer)?
- Does this issue persist after you disable all plugins in your browser?
- Does this issue persist in Chrome's Incognito Window (Ctrl+Shift+N)?

Best regards,
David

Hey David, thanks for your continued help on this. I hope you're not working all Labor Day weekend :)

In playing around with this issue more it seems that the task does get created on the right day, the issue is that the view screen that it brings up is wrong (priority view instead of today, tomorrow, etc view).

My chrome version is 21.0.1180.89 as well.

Good call on the time zone issue, I just moved and it was not in sync with the one on my comp; sadly though this did not fix the issue, with a complete reset of everything tried too.

Tried incognito & with all extensions turned off as well & it still happens :(

Scott,

unfortunately, I still can't reproduce the forwarding issue. Even if I add a task with a priority (with !p1 within the task name), I still get redirected to the tomorrow or today view (accordingly to the task date).

Please tell me:
- What exact task name do you type in?
- Did you disable all your browser plugins and retry?
- Have you cleared your browser's offline storage and app data? Note - clearing the cache will not clear this data, you need to remove todoist.com from the list in Advanced Settings -> Content Settings -> All Cookies and Site data.

Best regards,
David

Hi David.

I type in 'test' or anything really, all the same when I tried other task names, and (to reiterate) it changes it to the priority view based on the date (so for 'tod' it changes to priority 3 items bc it's 9/3).

Sorry, I disabled all extensions, I went & disabled all plug-ins this time and still nothing :(

I followed your directions & cleared the offline storage & app data for todoist. Still nothing either :(

Any more thoughts? ~Scott

Scott,

unfortunately, we don't know what may cause this issue and still can't reproduce it.

There was a similar issue with forwarding to a specific view after using the Quick Add feature in the past, but it's been fixed months ago and we didn't have any reports about it occurring again.

Please tell me:
- Does this issue occur if you add tasks to any project or only one specific project?
- Does it persist if you type +5 as a due date (meaning - 5 days from now)?
- What timezone is set in your Todoist Preferences?

Best regards,
David

Hey David, didn't change anything from our last check in and it started working correctly again today. I have no idea why but I'm really hoping it stays. Can we please keep this issue open for a few more days to see if it sticks?

I have had and continue to have the identical issue in Chrome 21.0.1180.89 (but I also see the same problem in Firefox 14.0.1). So this is certainly not resolved. As noted above, the issue began happening once I started scheduling things in September 2012, and it has persisted for a couple weeks. The task is correctly logged and added to the list in the correct place, but upon pressing the "Add Task" button, the date changes form to something like 11. Sep 2012, the screen in the background changes to the respective priority N task list, and what is most annoying is that the Add Task popup doesn't go away until you press the "x" in the top corner to get rid of it.

I don't understand how, but it seems that while the task is added to the correct day, some part of the software is misinterpreting the day portion of the due date as the priority.

Everything works fine if a due date is not provided, so it is clearly something with the interpretation of due dates. Interestingly, it appears to be an issue only if the first number of the day is between 1 and 4. So setting the due date between Sep 5 and 9 presents no issue because there are no priorities above 4. But Sep 1 and anything between Sep 10 and 19 prompts the priority 1 screen, while Sep 2 and anything between Sep 20 and 29 pulls up the priority 2 screen, and so on. Even stranger, using Sep 4 does pull up the priority 4 screen, but it does not have the problem of the Add Task window remaining open.

Note that Scott reported the problem resolved on Sep 4. I suspect that as of a few days ago, once he reached Sep 10 in his due dates, he began reexperiencing the same problem again.

I also find that this is not an issue with due dates in October, which makes me think there may be something about either the number 9 in the month, or perhaps that the abbreviation for September "Sep" ends in a p, which is also the keyword for setting the priority? At least that might be something that could be looked into. It must be misinterpreting something.

From my testing, it doesn't matter if I click on the calendar, or type "tod" or "tom" or month/day or use "sep xx" formats for the dates, it always produces the same result.

Sorry for the length, but I hope some of the details are useful. Thanks for revisiting this issue.

Beautifully summarized & you are indeed correct, the problem has returned in just the way you detailed.

As a side note, Jason, do you also have problems when you click on '7 days' in that it briefly displays the next 7 days but quickly reverts back to 'today' view. The only way I've resolved this is by refreshing the site.

Hello Jason and Scott,

thank you for your reports, we've been able to reproduce this issue and will try to fix it as soon as we can.

It turns our that this issue occurs only when using (and having set up in the Preferences) the MM/DD date format. With this format, the issue occurs exactly as you describe, even dates like "tom" are affected. None of this happens with the DD/MM date format, though.

I have passed it to the developers and hopefully, we'll have a fix very soon. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Best regards,
David

David,

I thought about playing with the date format, but never got around to it. Thanks for that suggestion. I hope you're able to track down the bug soon.

Scott,

I have also had issues recently with the screen not changing correctly when I click on the shortcut links. Sometimes it would flash a different screen, but still end up on the correct one, and sometimes it just wouldn't change at all. But it hasn't been doing it consistently, and I spend most of my time on the same screen anyway, so I don't know what the problem is. I assume it's unrelated, although it did just begin recently as well, so maybe not.

Jason,

regarding the issue with changing screens - please try to log out, clear your browser's cache and offline storage data, reload the browser and log in making sure you always use a direct link to http://todoist.com and not a bookmark pointing to a different location.

Best regards,
David

Hello,

this issue has been fixed. Using the "Quick Add" feature will now no longer redirect to the incorrect page and will properly close the input box.

David
