Stuck in Offline Mode in Outlook

G

My To Do list in Outlook is stuck in offline mode, but I have an internet connection. I can even launch the help from the bottom. How do I get it to sync and enable reminders?

Hello Gayla,

there should be a small triangle with an exclamation mark in the top-right corner which you can click and the changes will be synchronized with the server.

Please clarify - do you see an error message saying that "you're offline"? If so - when exactly does it appear? Each time you open Outlook, log in to Todoist, make a change etc.?

As for the second issue - you can add a reminder to any task by right-clicking on it and choosing "Reminder". If the task has a specified due time, the reminder can be "relative" (xx minutes/hours/days before deadline) otherwise it can be "absolute" in which case you can use any date/time format supported by Todoist.

If you choose a default reminder method in Preferences -> Reminders, each time you add a task with a certain due time, a reminder will be set automatically to "30 minutes before deadline".

Alternatively, you can type <remind tomorrow at 3pm> within a task name and a reminder will be set to this time.

Best regards,
David

There is a red triangle at the top of my Outlook add in. When I click it to force a sync, it continues to say I am offline. I can work within the list, but my changes are not syncing to the web.

When I try to add a reminder, it will not let me since I am in offline mode.

Does that help?

Gayla,

please tell me:
- Did you set Outlook itself to work in offline mode at any time?
- What version of Internet Explorer is installed on your computer (our plugin always uses IE to connect)?
- Can you access Todoist through IE (both http://todoist.com and http://todoist.com/?mini=1 )?
- Do you have any Outlook plugins or anti-virus software which may influence the networking?

Best regards,
David

-No, I never used offline mode in Outlook
- I use IE9
-Yes I can access Todoist on IE unsing both links
-I do not think so, but I run it on a work PC, so hard to say for sure. They had blocked all Outlook plugins at one time, but I had the open them back up so I could use Todoist, and it has been working fine for the last few weeks.

Just as I added this last reply, it has come out of offline mode. Maybe logging into Todoist on IE9 kicked it somehow? Back to working! :) Thanks for the help anyway.

Gayla,

if you experience this issue in the future, please try to clear Internet Explorer's cache.

Hello,

Closing Outlook should not be a problem as the plugin can work in offline mode, save changes and sync them later, but please try to use the circular icon in the bottom-right corner to force a reload of the plugin (which should also trigger a sync).

David

Sorted, apparently the fact that I have an automatic proxy detection script on my network definition was causing a conflict with the plug in in outlook.
