Just lost a bunch of tasks on one list - they disappeared - HELP!

I have a list entitled "Recurring" and "One Time" that just lost a whole bunch of tasks... I don't know where they went, they just disappeared. One minute, I had a count of 17 in the list and when I dragged a new task into the list, it dropped to 1 task. This happened on both lists. Please help! Those were really important tasks!

Hello Kate,

please log out of Todoist, clear your browser's cache and offline storage data, reload the browser and log back in.

Also, please tell me:
- Which browser are you using?
- Are you using any plugins in your browser?
- What operating system are you using (and is it 32-bit or 64-bit)?

Hi David,

Thanks for taking this on. Logged out of Todoist, cleared the cache and offline data, reloaded the browser, then logged back in. Still with the missing tasks.

Using Chrome (the latest)
Shockwave Flash plug-in
Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit

Kate,

please use Chrome's Incognito window to access Todoist (Ctrl+Shift+N) and let me know if it helps.

Also try to use at least one other browser to see if the tasks are still missing. Furthermore, try to use the mobile site http://todoist.com/m

Aside from that, try to check all project's "Get completed tasks" lists as well as the "# Completed" history in the upper-right corner. You can also try to query the names of the labels used in these tasks (if there were any) or perform the in-task name query (q: name) and see if it returns any results.

Incognito window returns the same results. Tried both Firefox and IE, same results. Tried mobile on all 3 with same results.

What's odd is that when I 'get completed tasks' and '# completed' histories and search within, it shows 0 completed tasks in both projects named 'recurring' and 'one time', even though I know I completed tasks. I even expanded the time parameters to include all time and that did not bring up any completed tasks.

None of the queries returned any tasks.
What next?

Kate,

please clarify - when using the "q: name" query, did you use a full word that was part of the name of one of the missing tasks?

Note - this query requires the complete word to be used so, for example, if one of the missing tasks was called "Meet with John", you'd need to query:

q: meet
q: with

or

q: john

Unfortunately, we can't reproduce this issue and it's technically not possible for any data to be deleted using the drag & drop feature. Could you please describe the exact action you've taken when this issue occurred? That is - incl. details such as - which view were you in when this happened, was it a sub-task etc.

Also, can you reproduce this issue again using a couple of test tasks in a test project?

I did use the whole words, I love the query feature and use it frequently.

I was in a project view - one of my projects is called 'To Process' and I add a date to one of the tasks (not a subtask) and dragged it to 'One-Time', which then caused an update and the tasks in both One-Time and Recurring lists were lost. No other tasks were affected.

I haven't been able to reproduce the loss with any test tasks or projects (I waited a day or two to see if perhaps time might be a factor.)

However, I do wonder if it had to do with syncing. I sync between my phone, my ipad, and a mac and windows (both on Chrome). I wonder if the app I was using on iphone/ipad caused a sync problem and a loss of the items on that device, which then sync'd across... the timing is just odd, though, since I'd been logged in for several hours on the Windows machine and had sync'd several times without a hitch.

I've deleted the mobile app now and will just use the offline feature. I'm willing to chalk it up to a wonky glitch - or user error (who knows?), unless you have any other ideas?

we're very sorry for the inconvenience, this is a very serious issue that we're going to investigate and try to reproduce. We weren't able to do it so far, but hope to find the source of this issue. Thank you for the information provided so far, we hope it will help identify it.

- Were you using our official iOS app: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/todoist/id476672770?mt=8 or the mobile site http://todoist.com/m ?
- Can you remember if this was the first action you took right after syncing your tasks through your phone/iPad?

Hi David,

Thanks for your help - todoist has been really secure and great so far (I've had an account for years now) and this is the first thing even resembling a glitch.

The app installed on my iphone/ipad was Allegheny. That app crashed a few times when I first installed it, but then, after an update seemed to be pretty consistent and a lot better.

I hadn't used my phone/ipad for todoist that day at all. And, I'd been on the website on the Windows platform for several hours with no issues. My phone was on, though, and I had used it to make calls, etc. Not sure if that would have an effect on things...

Also, the previous day, I moved a bunch of tasks around between those lists, both in and out of the lists that dropped some tasks. I don't know if that's helpful, but I did all that moving via iPad/Allegheny.

I haven't had any problems with the mobile site. I plan to continue using that option.

I just observed a significant data loss. Then I logged in with google chrome. All data is on the spot. Very strange.

to help us solve this issue, we would greatly appreciate if you could provide us with the following information:
- Which browser were you using?
- Are you using any plugins in the browser in which this issue occurred?
- Are you using a 32-bit or 64-bt system?
- Did logging out and back in solved it in this browser?
- Did clearing your cache and offline storage solved it in this browser?

interesting that the left column displays all as always. also not all information was lost.
