GMail tasks keep reloading GMail

CE

I love the idea of integrating GMail with Todoist tasks, and I can add the tasks just fine. However, when I click on the link to the mail from the tasks, it reloads all of GMail before navigating to the right email. The video suggests that it just goes to the email without reloading GMail each time.

Suggestions?

(BTW - I'm referring to the Chrome extension, running on Vista. I haven't tried Linux, yet, but will.)

Hello Colby,

the message should indeed open in a new tab. I've been able to reproduce this issue and have passed it to the developers. Thank you for your report and sorry for any inconvenience it might have caused you.

For now, as a workaround, you could drag and drop the link to the top of your browser window and it will be opened in a new tab.

Best regards,
David

Thanks for the workaround. That does work. As with my other request, though, I would like to lobby for a different design. Opening in a new tab, which includes a reload of GMail, might be a nice option, but I would venture a guess that most people would prefer that if you're on the GMail tab already, that clicking on the link would bring up the email within the current instance of GMail. (The video, as I recall, shows this behavior.) This feature would be the main reason I would jump ship from what I'm using to Todoist. I'm missing this one behavior that would help my workflow.

If I'm in the minority, then by all means go with your customer base. I'd bet that I'm not in the minority.

A configurable option would be ideal.

Thanks again for the quick reply and the accurate information. I'm not trying to be a pain - I am looking for a better solution than what I presently have.

Hello Colby,

the behavior you've seen in the video and have described above is the default behavior and your GMail tab should not reload and the message should open itself in a new tab upon clicking the link.

The reason why it currently doesn't is most likely a glitch/bug which we are trying to identify and fix right now. Once we do, the email-task will open the message in a new tab as it always did.

Best regards,
David

I am also having this issue. I have Gmail open, I then I click the Todoist extension icon at the top right of the screen. This pops down the Todoist screen, and I navigate to a task in Todoist which is a Gmail link. I click the link. In the current browser window it then totally restarts Gmail (I see the blue loading bar), and opens the email. It would be best (and quicker) if it didn't have to re-load Gmail and just opened the email in the current session.

I know this is possible because when I use Google Tasks it works like this, even if you pop-out Google Tasks into a separate window.

This is very annoying to me as I click on tasks to open emails many times a day.

I am using the Chrome extension by the way. Chrome Version 24.0.1312.14 beta-m.

Thanks for your help!

Hello Nick,

Thank you for your report, I've been able to reproduce this issue and have passed it to the developers.

Also, please note that we cannot guarantee any functionality in any beta version of a browser. Please try to use the latest stable release for the best functionality.

Best regards,
David

Waiting on this fix too. Didn't realize it was buggy until I already added a bunch of emails to tasks that way. (btw -- the drag link to address bar trick isn't working for me as an alternative. any suggestions there would be welcome too.) Thanks! - michael
