New error message: "For performance reasons you can only add 150 tasks pr. project. Please split your tasks in multiple projects."
I started receiving the error message "For performance reasons you can only add 150 tasks pr. project. Please split your tasks in multiple projects." As many of my projects already exceed this amount I can now no longer add any new tasks to those projects.
I have the free product, is this limitation removed in the premium version?
Is there any way around this new limitation other than readjusting all of my projects that exceed 150 items?
this limitation has been introduced with the move to HTML5 (which allows full offline access to the web-app as well as greatly increased desktop-like performance) and has been set for all users. It is not permanent as we're testing how well the new version scales and will most likely increase and/or lift it soon.
For now, you could try to break down some of your projects into sub-projects and move some of your tasks into them or create new tasks in temporary sub-projects. We're sorry for any inconvenience this might have caused you.
Thanks for the reply. I guess I will sit tight for now.
For what it's worth I seem to have many projects hovering just under 250 items, and a few that are just under 500.
thank you for this information. The storage capabilities of HTML5 are large, but also limited and we strongly advise that you break down some "big" task structures into sub-projects, for example - if you have a main task with 100+ sub-tasks in it, it could become a sub-project. Just as you can add sub-tasks, sub-projects can also be created using the Ctrl+RightArrow shortcut while adding a project.
same problem here, I am anxious to have more-than-150-limit back. It's very easy to overflow this number when you are storing project work tasks, project ideas etc and I dont want to separate those into subprojects.
I 2nd the opinion. It seems that I have many projects @ the 150 limit. I have tried to do the sub project thing and I am saving "Paul to get Peter "in trouble. Is there a way to tell the total number in a project
we're very sorry for the inconvenience, these limitations will be lifted in the future. We need to make sure the new HTML5 implementation scales properly and will gradually extend them.
You can check the total number of your tasks within a project on the number displayed on the left side of the project name. If you collapse a structure of sub-projects using the arrow to the left of the parent project's name, the number will update showing the total amount of tasks within this project structure.
That what I thought. The task I am trying to add to has 112 next to the project name. So there should be plenty of room. But I get the "For performance reasons..." when I try to add a task
Of note I have used the delete completed task button on the project
The net is I am losing value add of Todoist as I am having to spent time trying to manage it.
we're sorry for the inconvenience. Could you please try to log out, clear the cache and offline storage, reload the browser, log back in and see if the issue persists?
Also, have you tried moving some of the task to a new (could be temporary) project and check if this will allow you to add tasks to the old project?
-1 and a big thumbs down for the new 150 task limit!
This really messes up my projects.
Please advise when this decision wil be reversed or the limit increased for premium users.
David: "these limitations will be lifted in the future"
Is there any outlook on when this will occur?
unfortunately, we will not lift these limitations completely. We may increase the project count in the future, though.
Please note that the current limit (80 projects and 150 tasks per project) allows you to have 12,000 active tasks (archived projects and completed tasks don't count towards the limit).
If you're experiencing issues with these limitations, please let us know how you're using Todoist or organizing your projects and tasks so we could assist you in finding a workaround.
David: so dissapointing !:(
it's SO easy to reach 150 tasks.
Im using todoist to track my work tasks and although Im trying to place some tasks to subprojects, Im using one project as main work tasks and ideas queue, because what I dont see right away when I open todoist, I tend to forgot (subprojects tasks are slowly rotting).
"Create a subproject" is simply not the answer. Also because I have to adapt my habbits to application, and I think that tools we use are those who should adapt. Although I understand that this could be technically very challenging and it's must be very hard to satisfy needs of so many different users with different workflows.
Im working as a software architect and I have to track work regarding our system and ~40 applications so you can imagine that there are many actual tasks with subtasks. Two days ago I reached 150 limit in my main project again and it's so frustrating everytime, I have to simply use good old paper when this happens.
thank you very much for your feedback. It was also a tough decision to make for us, but we've chosen this particular limitation based on statistical data and only very few accounts have exceeded the 150 tasks per project limit, but the increase in performance we could offer for everyone with this limitation was huge.
As a workaround, I would suggest to use task notes for quick ideas which you could keep within one task. In order to see them right away, you could simply postpone this task every day so it would always be on top. There are no limitations regarding task notes.
Alternatively, you could use the Ctrl+M keyboard shortcut which enables breaking a line within a task name. If you would like to put a series of similar ideas into one task, you could separate them this way.
Adding Notes sounds like a good idea. It would cut down on secondary "tasks" that are really just added details for the original task. Is this an option in the Free version of Todoist?
If not, could you consider adding it to the Free product to counteract this new limitation?
task notes are a Premium-only feature. We may of course consider changing our Premium offer in the future.
Ok thanks for the tips although I still hope that this will be possible somehow in the future.
But as a developer I cant say that I dont undestand your decision and I have to admit that such decision was probably right one if I unwillingly leave my selfish point of view ;)
I have a question though - isnt it possible to consider enabling it as a option only for users who need it via preferences, ? Maybe with combination with some other new features for additional fee (something like "premium pro") ?
we will of course consider changing our Premium offer in the future. You're also welcome to add your vote and suggestions to this request in our Votebox: http://todoist.com/Vote/showProposal/451/
And you can vote on making Notes available to Free users:
How about an opt-out button that individuals can use to override this? If there are only a few of us affected by this it seems that should not impact overall performance.
You can vote on the suggestion to have an option to opt-out from this limitation here: http://todoist.com/Vote/showProposal/657/
