Change to Recurring Task

GK

I'm not able to change an existing task with an assigned date to a recurring task. The only thing I could do after several tries was to create a new task and make it recurring. Correct?

Hello,

in order to change a task's due date simply left-click on the task name and you'll enter the edit mode for this task. Then, click on the old date (while in edit mode) and type the new one.

Please refer to this list: http://todoist.com/Help/timeInsert to see which date formats are supported by Todoist.

If you still experience issues, please tell me - what exact due date are you trying to use?

Best regards,
David

That is what I was doing. It just ignored the entry. I was changing a task that was due on Saturday to recur every Saturday. I tried both just clicking the task and changing the date and also clicking on Edit Task and then changing the date, but it just greys it out and says, 'moved to Saturday'. When I refresh it still shows it just as it was prior to the attempt at change. I am currently using the Mozilla plug-in, but I did also try this while on the actual Website and it still will not work. The workaround is obviously to just create a new task, but it's yet another step to create and then delete.

Another issue is that when I click on a task and the box appears with various choices (Postpone, Edit Task, etc.), that box will sometimes not go away and remains in the way of clicking on Save. When this happens I have to click on another task, then click cancel and when I do the box disappears from wherever it is displaying. It would maybe be helpful if there was a close or cancel option to make the box go bye-bye if you change your mind.

Sorry we're getting to be such good posting friends, David. :)

The right-click context menu should disappear if you left-click anywhere else even on the edit box or within it. Also, the edit/add box will only disappear if no changes have been made. Otherwise, even if it disappears, it will save the changes automatically.

As for the date issue - I can't reproduce it. Please tell me :
- What date exactly are you typing within the box? "Every Saturday"? "ev Sat"? "ev sat"? "every Saturday"?
- Does this issue persist if you hard-refresh the page using Ctrl+F5 (in the web-app)?
- Does clearing the cache solve this issue?
- Does this issue persist if you delete the old due date, save and then add "ev sat" as the new date and save again?

David

As for the edit box, it doesn't disappear when I click anywhere. I click and click and sometimes I find the right spot and sometimes not.

As for the date, what I typed in the box were all of the above. I have not tried refreshing just before doing it, but I refresh often. Have not cleared the cache - and don't want to have to obviously. I do not know if it persists if I delete the old due date, save and then add the recurring - if I'm doing to go through all that I may as well just create a new task.

It seems that I just keep finding a lot of little glitches - especially because I'm using Todolist in Outlook, Mozilla, my phone and the Web page. The phone app may be the smoothest operation at this point. I have noticed that you give me a fix for a problem (like the calendar not showing Saturday), it works and then it starts happening again. I am working my list every single day, trying both to attain total comfort with the system and learn all of the tools. But as you've seen, I keep hitting "road blocks".

No need to reply to this. Feel free to add this to your list, but I guess it doesn't help if you can't recreate it. I'll work around it for now. Thanks, David.

We're constantly trying to improve our software and make it glitch-free and we're trying to reproduce, identify and fix every reported issue. However, if we can't, we need to gather as much information as we can to hint us towards the source of the issue and we greatly appreciate if you could provide any information that could help us.

Many issues can be caused by a corrupt or outdated browser cache and knowing whether clearing it solves any of these issues would already be very helpful. Please note that I'm only referring to the cache and not your personal browsing history or cookies or form data. All the questions I was asking were not supposed to provide a solution, but gather information to fix these glitches permanently. Removing the old due date, saving and adding a new one would help us identify the source of the issue as it excludes many options. So does knowing if refreshing or clearing the cache helps.

As for the calendar issue - could you please send a screenshot showing this problem to david@doist.io ?

Also, what mobile app(s) are you using? Our iOS app, the mobile site or a third-party app?

I'm very sorry for the inconvenience, but we would really like to fix these issues as soon as possible and any information provided would greatly help us speed up the process.

Best regards,
David

OK. My cache is cleared out on an almost daily basis, so that's not the issue. Yes, if I clear the date & save & then plug in a recurring date it works. I have also discovered that I CAN change the date from regular to recurring without the aforementioned issue IF I am doing so while in the Project tasks list. But most of the time when I want to change or alter a date I am in the Next 7 Days view. As I discovered over the weekend (when I corresponded with you several times), making changes in this view is where I seem to encounter a lot of issues. For this most recent test I am using the Mozilla plug-in.

I am using the iOS app.

I am about to send you a snip of the calendar issue. At times the whole calendar does appear, at others it looks like what I'm sending you, and at others you can't even see the last day - not even part of it. You had earlier suggested changing my preferences to a different view (Monday start instead of Sunday or whatever) and that seemed to fix it, but it's back. It may be because I switched back to my preferred view again (Sun-Sat) - I just don't know. I'm honestly getting confused as to what works, what doesn't, what I fixed and when and thus it's hard to know when issues are appearing for the first time in a particular tool or if it's a recurring problem.

I know that you guys are working hard on this, and it is appreciated. I just can't hang in there forever because I need a system to work the same way every time I use it. I'm planning to stick around because I think you have a great product, but - well you know. After awhile time and effort may become a factor. For now, I'm here and rooting you all on - seriously.

Thank you very much for this detailed information. I've been able to reproduce the calendar issue. It's most likely not related to the choice of starting day you make in the preferences so feel free to set it to whichever day you prefer.

As a temporary workaround, I would advise to type dates manually. It's even faster to do so as Todoist understands many different inputs. For example, typing +3 sets the date to 3 days from now or typing 20 will set it to the next 20th day of this month. Dates such as "tom" (for tomorrow) or "sat" for the upcoming Saturday are also accepted. Please refer to this list to see which dates can be used: http://todoist.com/Help/timeInsert Note - you can save the changes with "Enter" while in the date field which makes inputing dates this way even faster.

One more question about the issue with setting a recurring date from the "7 days" view - what's your default start page set in the Preferences -> General Settings?

Best regards,
David

My default starting page is 'Info Page'.

Thanks for the other info - I have already reviewed the shortcuts - still working to figure out what I do/don't need.

I'm sure I'll be in touch again - your help as been much appreciated, David - thank you!

Please note that if your default start page is the Info Page, then the Todoist plugins will always show "today, overdue" as the default view and not "7 days" and it may be possible that reloading the view while in the "7 days" mode will redirect you to the default "today, overdue" page.

Nonetheless, could you please try to change the date using this URL http://todoist.com/?mini=1 in your browser (this is the content of the plugin page)? Also, once you use this URL, please tell me - which version number do you see? Currently it should be v=24 (within the URL).

David

This is indeed a bug, and I can reproduce it, since I just tried to upgrade a single task to a recurring one.

No matter what "Every X" I entered it was just set to that date.

I had to create a new task and delete the old one.

Hello Nicolai,

it would be very helpful if you could describe the process in which you reproduce this issue step-by-step incl. detailed information such as:
- what exact due date has been set in the task previously,
- what exact recurring due date are you typing in,
- what browser are you using,
- what view are you in,
- how are you editing the task (clicking on it, choosing "Edit" etc.).

David
