Task Order Issue

GK

I'm pretty new to Todoist, but so far I LOVE it. I plan to upgrade to the paid verison as soon as I confirm that the free version works as seamlessly as I need it to. (In fact, I'm thinking about switching to Gmail just to make this even easier.) Unfortunately, order of tasks is a big deal to me. I can reorder all tasks so easily online and in my add-ins in Outlook & Mozilla. But when I access my lists on my iPhone, the order does not match at all. Any fix?

Hello,

please tell me:
- Are you manually syncing your tasks on your iPhone and are connected to the internet when accessing them?
- Does this issue also occur on the mobile site http://todoist.com/m ?

Best regards,
David

Although I have added tasks using all of my access tools (the Todoist site with my login, my Outlook & Mozilla plugins and my iPhone), I primarily use my phone app to "refer" to my lists & for quick adds. I use the 'Resync everthing' tool at the bottom and all tasks immediately refresh and accurately match the other sources. It seems that the order of lists is the only thing that is out of "sync" with the lists as they appear in the other locations. I am using either wireless or network Internet access on my phone. I'm not certain if you are referring to going to the actual mobile site from my phone, or if you mean the app. I am using the app only. If I have to reorder the lists on my phone, it defeats part of my purpose. BUT, if I do have to do this I have not yet found a drag & drop feature on the app. Am I missing it? I really appreciate your assistance, David - thank you!

I was referring to the mobile site accessed through this address: http://todoist.com/m You can open your browser in your phone, go to this address and access a version of Todoist optimized for mobile devices reassembling the mobile app.

In order to identify the issue - whether it's related strictly to the mobile app or accessing tasks through a mobile device in general, it would be very helpful if you could try to access this mobile site and confirm if this issue also occurs there.

There is an option to reorder tasks and projects through the mobile app. You'll need to click on the "manage tasks" button (while accessing a project) and then you'll be able to drag and drop tasks grabbing them by the icon on the left side and then save the changed.

David

I accessed my account through the mobile site and it was just the same as in my app version - order of list items still does not match. I do wonder if this is an Outlook-specific thing. All of the changes made when I noticed this happening were all done through my Outlook plug-in. During the week, I am at work and primarily using the Mozilla plug-in. I can't be certain, but I don't think I had this inconsistency doing it this way. But regardless, they don't match.

Your comment about the drag & drop made something else occurr to me. I am not speaking about the order of lists in each project. I am referring to how they appear in my Today/Next 7 Days view. That is where I was changing them around to make them appear in the proper order. That is the order that does not seem to translate to my phone. I'm sorry if I was unclear - I should have been more specific.

As for the drag and drop. I only see the Manage Projects (iPhone app only) in the Project List view. When I am already IN a project, I don't have the option. Thus the only drag & drop feature that I can locate is to change the order of the list titles themselves, and not the lists within them.

As I just checked further, some additional inconsistencies.

I have the Todoist site open in Internet Explorer & am signed in. Yesterday I made several changes to Projects - name changes, deletions, etc. from my Mozilla plug-in on my work computer. This was reflected on the site today only after logging out and back in. Is there a refresh button to avoid this step? I have refreshed previously by just clicking on Back and then into my Today (or whichever view). The additions/deletions have always shown before. But these were just changes to Project List names. This caused me to note that while my phone also reflects all of the changes from yesterday, my Outlook version does not. ODDLY, when I click on the list title and enter the project the title looks correct once "inside". But when I am looking at the list of all project titles, the name is wrong. I then logged out and back in and it was fixed. Could you explain to me when I need to fully log out and when I can simply click back and forth to update my lists? It seems that it's being inconsistent. And what is the best way to refresh from an Outlook or Mozilla plug-in? Just clicking Back and then going back in as I have been? Obviously on my phone I have the 'Resync Everything' option.

Sorry for all of this, but these are road blocks that I'd like to clear up before I get too far and use this for too long. I want it to work, so I appreciate your help.

Thank you for clarifying, the order or tasks displayed on the "7 days" view may indeed be inconsistent. We are currently working on a brand new iOS app which should address such issues.

As for the manual reordering - please clarify - you see the "Manage projects" button from the home view, but when you enter a project, and scroll down to the bottom, you don't see a "Manage Tasks" button?

As for the refreshing - we are currently rewriting our app using HTML5 which will solve this issue as it will re-sync itself automatically. For now, please try to simply reload the page through your browser. Using the "back" button is not necessary as Todoist is a dynamic app which does not forward you to a different page upon each change. Aside from the browser's "reload" button, you can also use F5 or, to perform a "hard refresh" Ctrl+F5. The "TD" logo also reloads the page.

In the Outlook and Firefox plugins, please right-click on an empty space somewhere within the plugin (NOT on a task) and you'll see a small context-menu saying "Reload" and "Logout". Using "Reload" will refresh the page. Logging out is not required.

Best regards,
David

Thanks again, David. I will for the new iOS app. To address your other queries & comments:

"As for the manual reordering - please clarify - you see the "Manage projects" button from the home view, but when you enter a project, and scroll down to the bottom, you don't see a "Manage Tasks" button?" WHEN I ENTER A PROJECT, I DO STILL SEE THAT OPTION. BUT I DON'T SEE IT WITHIN THE 'TODAY' OR 'NEXT 7 DAYS' LIST, WHICH IS WHERE I SPEND MOST OF MY TIME WHILE USING MY PHONE APP. PERHAPS YOU NEW VERSION WILL ADDRESS THIS ALSO?

..."Aside from the browser's "reload" button, you can also use F5 or, to perform a "hard refresh" Ctrl+F5. The "TD" logo also reloads the page." I HAVE NO ISSUE USING THE RELOAD BUTTON WHEN LITERALLY ONLINE THROUGH THE SITE. IT'S THE PLUG-INS I WAS ASKING ABOUT AND THEY DO NOT SHOW THE 'TD' LOGO OR OFFER THE OTHER OPTIONS.

"In the Outlook and Firefox plugins, please right-click on an empty space somewhere within the plugin (NOT on a task) and you'll see a small context-menu saying "Reload" and "Logout". Using "Reload" will refresh the page. Logging out is not required." I ONLY HAVE THE OUTLOOK PLUG IN HERE (AT HOME). IT DOES NOT DO THIS. WHEN I RIGHT-CLICK ANYWHERE WITHIN TD, BUT NOT ON A TASK, I GET A LONG LIST OF OPTIONS, BUT IT LOOKS MORE LIKE AN OUTLOOK RESPONSE THAN A TD RESPONSE. ONE OF THE OPTIONS IS, HOWEVER, REFRESH, AND IT WORKS WHEN I CLICK IT. 'LOGOUT' IS NOT AN OPTION - BUT IT APPEARS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDOW.

Sorry for the caps, but wanted to make it easy to reference. It seems that I have a handle on what works and what doesn't. My hope is the the new app will include some revisions that will continue to help streamline the sync issues. Aside from these questions, let me again say that I absolutely love Todoist. I will hang in there for awhile. Any approximate date on the new iOS app release?

Again, many, many thanks for your time and responsiveness. This experience just bolsters my positive opinion and helps to solidify the service portion of your offering.

The option to reorder tasks on the "Today" or "7 days" view has been implemented quite recently into Todoist and that's why it hasn't been included in the iOS app yet especially since we're working on a brand new app. Unfortunately, I can't give you an exact timeframe on when the new app will be released, but you're welcome to sign up for the upcoming beta at: http://todoist.com/mobile_testing

As for the reloading issue - please try to click on the top of the plugin (the gray bar at the very top of the plugin window that says "Todoist"), this should trigger the small "Reload/Logout" menu. However, as you've noticed, using the system's context menu to reload is also possible.

It's nice to hear that you like our software, we are constantly improving it, you can follow us on our social media channels on Google+, Facebook or Twitter (you can find the links in the bottom-right corner of the Todoist web-app) to get the latest news and announcements about new features.

If you need any further assistance, feel free to ask anytime :)

best regards,
David

The 'Reload/Logout' menu does not appear when I click on the grey bar. But I can use the option mentioned previously. Just FYI - this is in the Outlook plug-in - I will try the Mozilla plug-in on Monday at work.

I will sign up for the beta testing - thanks again, David. You have been most helpful. Continued good wishes for the continued success of Todoist!!

I don't have a "reorder" option on the today, the 7 days or on any of my project lists. Is this because I have yet to order premium?

Hello Niama,

Reordering is available for free accounts and you can access it by hovering over a task and then dragging & dropping it by the handle that shows up on its left side as you hover over it.
