Random sender for text reminders
Is it really necessary to use a random Sender of the various reminders that are sent as texts? It's not difficult to send text messages using a normally addressed sender -- not causing a hellacious amount of messages from random senders cluttering up text message in-boxes. Very very irritating.
unfortunately, we have no influence on some properties of the text messages sent from our SMS provider, but thank you for your feedback, we will keep it in mind and we'll see what can be done in the future to improve this service.
it would be great if you could help us identify the issue by providing the following information:
- What number are you receiving these messages from?
- What's your location (country code, to be exact)?
Note - I've set this thread to "private" (hidden from public) so feel free to post it here.
Hi David, I'll give you an exact example that can serve as a prototype. The "From" address of a message is this:
That is the address I received one reminder from. There are many more that have different random first x characters (to the left of the "@").
Obviously, if I'm receiving many reminders over the course of even one day, and I don't happen to delete them as they come in, my texting client inbox gets extraordinarily cluttered.
My company has written apps that allow for this kind of reminder texting (in the real estate business) and using multiple changing random "From" addresses isn't necessary.
I'm in the US, however, as you can see the problem isn't with a specific phone number or geographic location. These messages are sent through a series of SMS Email gateways and the number is less important.
Finally, this is a distinctly unattractive characteristic of your service. I would suggest that you work towards at least a "firstname.lastname@example.org"; "From" address for your out-going text reminders.
I think the reason why this happens is because email to SMS is used.
To fix this simply change your number to Elsewhere, like this:
Using this method you will get a SMS reminder from only one number.
My setting was for the carrier I use. Seems like that's a bit of a bug that "Elsewhere" works properly, but "Verizon" doesn't.
May I ask how you're sending the "Elsewhere" if not through various SMS Gateways?
We use a service called Tropo ( tropo.com ) to send SMSes.
Thanks David and Amir, the reminders are working as they should now. And thanks for the info on tropo.com -- that just might help our real estate management business.
