Am I the only one finding the mobile app dreadfully slow to load and sync?

I've timed Todoist's load time on my 2nd generation iPod touch (holding out for an iPhone 5 when it finally gets released!), as well as on my iPad. In both cases, the load and sync times are PAINFULLY slow! This is true regardless of what wi-fi signal I happen to be using. For example, opening the app on my iPod touch takes more than 30 seconds...every time. Similarly, syncing takes almost 30 seconds, even when no new tasks have been entered. Contrast this to Toodledo's app, which takes 2 seconds to launch on the same devices, and less than 10 seconds to open AND sync...every time.

I really prefer the UI of Todoist, but I find the mobile app so slow and unreliable (sometimes new tasks don't even show up when I sync or re-launch) that I almost never use it now. Todoist has become a place where I keep reference lists, but I no longer use it to track my active tasks, due to the slow processing, unreliability and missing features of the mobile app.

Is there any relief in sight?

we're very sorry for the inconvenience. We are already working on a brand new native app and will release an open beta in a few weeks as mentioned in the announcement for our Android app: https://plus.google.com/106827182652048588353/posts/Uwkb8k7mwin

We will announce further details once we're ready to deploy the beta version.

For now, in order to reproduce this issue and help us identify it, could you please provide the following information:
- Does the same issue occur when you connect to the mobile site: http://todoist.com/m ?
- How many tasks (approximately) do you have on your to-do list?

I've never been able to log in using http://todoist.com/m, whether on my iPod touch (2nd gen) or my iPad (1st gen). Each time I try to log in at that mobile address, I get returned to the log in page (my email address and password still intact where I entered them). Using Safari on these devices.

As far as the length of the list goes, I'm unsure at the moment since I put asterisks next to each entry (the list is more of a repository of notes than a task list) so there's no count next to it. I would estimate 100 entries. It is quite long, but I have other long lists similar to this one which are not affected at all.

Cliff,

please clear your browser's cache, make sure your browser is fully HTML5 compatible, is accepting first- and third-party cookies and that you're connected to the internet when accessing this site for the first time (it can be accessed offline as well, but the first sync must be performed online).

Also, please tell me - what version of iOS are you using?

Hi David,

I'm using iOS 5.1.1 on my iPad. If I understand correctly, iOS 5 removed the option to clear the cache, but it still allows for clearing history, cookies and data, which I did. This made no difference. I then noticed I was in "private browsing" mode and, when I switched that off, I was able to log in on the mobile site. However, whether I'm using the mobile site with Safari, or using the dedicated iPad app, that one particular list I have continues to crash everything, i.e. the app and the browser.

As my iPod touch is an older one (2nd gen), I'm unable to run anything better than 4.2.1, which means I can't install the latest version of Todoist on it, so I understand there are limitations associated with using Todoist on my current iPod touch.

Cliff,

does the list that crashes your mobile browser through the /m site also crashes a browser on a desktop computer (while accessing it through the /m site there as well)?

Also, in order to check if there isn't a single task or a task structure that may cause this issue, could you please try the following:
- create a new project,
- move some of the tasks from the "corrupt" project to the new one,
- try to access both projects through your iPad and the /m site?

If this won't make any difference or, only one of these projects will be inaccessible, you could repeat the process by moving smaller parts of it between these 2 projects to see which task(s) exactly cause this issue and let us know what the name of the task is or send a screenshot to david@todoist.com if there's a particular group of tasks that crash your mobile browser.

We're very sorry for the inconvenience, but if there is a bug related to certain names, character combinations or structures that can cause a crash, we would greatly appreciate any help that would lead to identifying and fixing it.
