Calendar subscription not working

U

Hi there. I noticed that my Todoist calendar subscription stopped working. I deleted the calendar and tried to add it again in both iCal and Gcal but still can't get it to work. Any suggestions?

Hello RJ,

please clarify:
- Which functions of the calendar have stopped working?
- What happens if you add the iCal feed? Do you see any error messages?

Best regards,
David

The calendar stopped updating new tasks. The only tasks showing up were tasks added several days ago, nothing from the last few days. When I try to add the feed in Gcal I get this: Settings Error Could not fetch the url. When I try to add it in iCal I get this: There was an unexpected error with the request on subscribed calendars (error -1).

RJ,

unfortunately, I can't reproduce this issue in Google Calendar. Please make sure that the copied iCal link from Todoist is complete (paste it into the notepad before you add it to the calendar).

As for the updates, please note that the Google Calendar only updates iCal feeds once in a while. It shouldn't take any longer than every 24h, though.

Also, please make sure that all due dates you've added to your tasks are supported by Todoist and can be found on this list:
https://todoist.com/Help/timeInsert

If you're not sure if some of the date you've used are correct, please post them here.

Best regards,
David

I'm not sure what you mean by the due dates being supported. If a due date isn't supported, wouldn't it give an error or default to no due date? How would I check for this?

RJ,

some due date formats aren't supported, but don't show an "invalid date" error. We are aware of this issue and will fix it in the future.

You can check if a due date is valid by comparing it to the list of supported dates, mentioned above. Only the exact listed formats are supported, any other combinations may cause various issues, for example, not being able to check off a recurring task.

David

David,

If I purchase the premium account, would my ToDoist automatically sync with GCal, or only if I manually export it?

Hello Jim,

as a Premium member, you will find an URL in your Todoist Preferences -> General Settings, pointing to the unique iCal feed of your account.

You would have to manually copy/paste it into your calendar software (which must support the iCal standard) once and it will be automatically refreshed as often as your calendar software will read the feed, but you would only need to do this once.

For whatever reason, I just started having the same problem. I deleted my calendar feed when I noticed it wasn't syncing properly. And when I tried to re-add it in Gcal, I got the "could not fetch the URL" error message. Any update on why this occurs? Thanks.

Hello Jongwook,

Though we're unsure why it happens, please try to add the calendar and instead of waiting for the sync, close the browser after adding the URL and check back a few minutes later. The calendar should be synced by then.

David

For whatever reason, it is now working. I noticed that the ics file is downloadable now in the settings tab (whereas last night it went to some error page and would not download). So I figure the calendar function was working again. And when I added the URL everything popped back up immediately (i.e. I do not think it was a matter of closing the browser, because I had tried that several times). Thanks!
