Email task not accessible if email moved
If I add and email message to create a Todoist task, and then move the email message to an archive folder, the email is no longer accessible from the task. This is problematic, as the main reason for creating tasks from emails is to get those messages out of your Inbox. Is there any way around this? Or, is the only option to move the email message to the archive folder, navigate to that folder, then add the email as a Todoist task?
please tell me:
- Which email client are you using?
- Which Todoist plugin are you using?
- In case you're using Outlook, is the "archive folder" just another folder for incoming mail or an actual "archived elements" folder pointing to a separate data file?
I'm using Outlook 2007 via a university Exchange server, with the newest free version of Todoist. The folder that I archive to is another Outlook folder located on my actual machine (under Message Files). But, here's some additional information that I've discovered after testing some various things.
The link between a task and the email from which it was created seems to track the move to a new folder, but only temporarily. If I wait a while, or if I close and reopen Outlook, the link disappears and the task won't open the original email message. This happens whether the message was moved to my local machine (Message Files), or is moved to another folder in my Mailbox (on the Exchange server). Any thoughts? I'm not sure what an "archived elements" folder is, but maybe that would help?
unfortunately, I can't reproduce this issue :(
It may indeed have something to do with the fact that you're using an Exchange server, but we will try to further investigate this issue and we'll let you know when it's fixed.
Sorry for any inconvenience it might have caused you. For now, you could try to only add previously moved mails as tasks.
I am having this same problem in Outlook 2010 and the newest version of the Todoist plugin (downloaded 8/26/11). I move the mail from my Inbox (Exchange server) to an archive folder on my PC (a .pst file). The link continues to work until I close and restart Outlook.
I get the same problem, but intermittently. My setup:
Latest Todoist Outlook plug-in
Todoist free account
I can't find a rhyme or reason to it - some links work, some don't. Sometimes the email hasn't moved, sometimes it has. I can always recreate the link to get it to work.
I'm also having the same issue
+1 having the exact same problem.
- Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 SP2
- Outlook 2010
- Todoist for Outlook plugin
- Pro Account
A similar issue was also reported here: https://todoist.com/Support/showQuestion/825/
Moving mails to the folders where they will end up stored and then adding the task is really a waste of time. The task link to the email should remain (if technically possible) even if mails are moved to different PST files (Outlook's conversation view feature does something like this)
Any new findings?
Any new findings?
unfortunately, this issue has not been fixed yet, but we will look into finding another solution to track the message's ID when using an Exchange Server.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Has there been any update on this issue? I am experiencing the same problem. If an email is moved into a new folder the link to the message no loner works once Outlook is closed and re opened. Thanks
we're still working on this issue, we will address it in the next release of our Outlook plugin. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Hello David, good day,
When can we expect the next release?
unfortunately, we can't give you any timeframe, our developers are working on it right now and we will let you know as soon as it's out.
This is good to hear, David. I actually haven't used Todoist in over a year (since I posted this message). Although I liked most everything about the application, this issue was a deal-breaker for me as it interrupted my work flow to such an extent that it wasn't worth the effort. I'll be keen to try out the new release, as I'd love to start using Todoist again!
Any update on this, it's a dealbreaker for me as with it fully working it is a killer feature
In case it helps, I use this tool (free) which creates links that work across folders: http://www.teamscope.com/otherpro/utilities.asp
We're sorry for the delays, we're still working on this issue and it should be addressed in the next updates of our Outlook app.
Please note that with Todoist Premium, you could forward your mails to your Todoist projects and they would be completely converted into tasks even without the plugin. The subject would be come the task name and the complete message - the task note making the message accessible across all devices.
Wow that's a fast reply!
Actually, the ability to link to emails is the killer feature rather than just having the email content - just to be clear.
Look forward to next update!
Same issue for me. I am using Outlook 2010 with Exchange Server and even if I move a message to another folder on the exchange server it does not work anymore. This is really a pity. I am a premium user and really would like to have this fixed soon.
Any update on this issues? I am using the latest plugin, and it seems like it has existed since 2011.
Please try to install this version of the plugin (it's the latest one - not published yet): https://d2dq6e731uoz0t.cloudfront.net/23ba6af99340be5655be8317812129dd/as/OutlookTodoist.Adx.RC.exe
Unfortunately, it seems to be a quite complex issue, but we hope we'll find a solution to it soon. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Any update on this issue? Just purchased Todoist Premium and have installed the Outlook plugin v.22.214.171.124 which I believe is the latest one. I am using Windows 7 on my laptop and Outlook 2010 and have installed IE10. I like the functionality available but am running into e-mail tasks from Outlook not opening as described above. Any update would be appreciated. Thanks.
Please install this verrsion. This version should resolve the issue mentioned above about moving emails. Let me know if you have any issues.
Loaded the version above and now when I click on an email link in the Todoist sidebar outlook crashes.... nice.
^ add to above - seems to sometimes work - hanging on certain emails - slow to open, etc. I'll watch and report back if I see a patterns as to when this happens - I have to admit that I work my Outlook pretty hard sometimes...
Thanks for the quick reply. I installed this version and still having the same issue. Outlook didn't crash like it did for C Bailey but I still can't open e-mails that were moved to a different folder after task creation. I am finding that, if I move the e-mail first to its final folder location, I can open the e-mail task if it was created after the move. However, this is definitely not efficient when compared to just creating the e-mail task from the outlook inbox. Let me know if you have any other recommendations?
Please make sure you uninstalled the previous version (or now this version) then clear the cache for IE, and then install the new version.
Tried this and still no difference..
We're very sorry for the inconvenience, we're working on an update for our Outlook plugin which should address all these issues.
Any update to this? I'm still experiencing this problem of the links not working.
Just installed todoist from the website yesterday (10/25/2013)
Added an email to a task then moved the email to a different folder.
Please tell me, does this issue persist when using this version of our plugin: https://d2dq6e731uoz0t.cloudfront.net/27d69392edce0cbd2d7128b9c74d070d/as/OutlookTodoist.Adx.exe ?
We're working on a complete rewrite of our Outlook plugin which will address all these issues.
It seems to be working for emails I'm linking moving forward, but it doesn't retroactively resolve my older tasks (of which I've created a lot)
Either way it appears to have resolved my problem!
Still the same issue with Outlook 2013 and moved mails to other pst-files. Is the official Outlook plugin now fixed or should I use the download link from Oct 25 (above)?
We're sorry for the inconvenience and the delays, we're close to finishing the new version of our plugin addressing this issue.
