Synch issues on mobile

AB

Hi, experiencing synch issues on mobile today, although 4g seems otherwise fine, after synching some changes, first yesterday's tasks reappeared, with changes I had made during the day after an unusually long time for the app to synchs, so restarted same again, tried to logout but app appeared to hang trying to contact server. Restarted ipad and after initial load synch yesterday's tasks but this time without changes I had made during yesterday and today shown on app.

Went to web, unusually long time trying to connect but after logging in correct updated tasks shown, sorry guys but it still looks like interruptions to connection between app and server seems to cause app to have problems synching correct task set.

Is it possible to access the previous version of the app for now? If not will use web version for time being...
Thanks

Hello Adam,

We're sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, we can't reproduce this issue and there's also no way to use our older app which had a lot of issues and even froze while syncing.

If there's any way that you can recreate this issue, please let us know as this would greatly help us identify the cause through following the steps you would provide and fix it.

Best regards,
David

Hi David,

Unfortunately I wasnt able to login to the app on the more stable home broadband connection but a reinstall of the app has restored the app dataset the same as the web, ie correct and updated.

I'm not sure how much more detail I can provide beyond my last post...it seems only to occur on mobile. And I'm based in Asia so we can suppose connection latency to be part of the problem. Nd it seems not to be a coincidence that login to the web version immediately after was unusually slow.

What we can see from today's issue is that this time when the app has problems for whatever reason synching with the server, it appears to have reverted to the immediately previous data set, and then after second difficulty in synching after closing and opening the app, it appears to have defaulted to the second most recent dataset, whether these are stored in the app or the server I have no idea, after which the app pretty much seems to have frozen up.

I guess that resolution can only be found by examining the interaction of the app synch code with the server over transient / mobile connections examining whether connection latency is a factor or not. with an apparently random number of synch iterations sooner or later the app seems to lose its reference points with the server dataset, Previously, I can only guess, duplicating until the synch completed, and now, again I guess, reverting to previous data sets.

If I come up with anything else will post again.

Thanks
Adam

To clarify my initial post the exact steps I had taken were to postpone using the app button, and/or change the date of tasks which displayed this morning as overdue from Yesterday, to either tomorrow or today variously. Upon swiping down on the ipad to manual synch and update the task view the issue occurred as I initially described.

Hope I've been able to describe it I. Sufficient details....

Hello Adam,

We'll look into this although so far we can't reproduce this. The way syncing works is that the server always decides what's going to happen, that is - any data you add or change on mobile is stored like a changelog in the app. If it can connect, the changelog is sent to the server and it compares the exact timestamps and order of it to its current state and makes the appropriate changes.

Hi David,

An update/observation...same issue recurred today, although no problems logging into web ver, as with last occurrence I had made a bunch of postpones, date changes, task deleting and updates. Unlike last time the app froze during autosynch. Logged out an app froze so closed it. Restart and login very slow but after around one minute it logged back in and synched correctly. Unlike last time reinstall not required. There definitely seems to be an issue with the app synch code in that whenever it can't synch with the server it is either timing out or freezing up, guess it makes sense that this could be triggered by a lot of changes at one go, so will try making fewer changes and manual synch rather than all at one go and see how that goes for now.

Hope this helps

Best regards
Adam

Correction - app reverted to pre bulk change dataset after logged back in, although web is correct. Reinstall app fixed it as before.
