iPhone app not giving me any push notifications (no alerts, sounds, or vibration)

JY

Hi Todoist Team,

I LOVE the functionality of the new iPhone app, but it is not giving me push notifications of any kind. I have turned on notifications in Settings for Todoist, making sure I am using the type of alerts that pop-up and are the most noticeable. I have not had a single push notification in the past two days (since I installed).

I am on the iPhone 4S running software 6.0.1.

I really, really want to use the mobile app, but push notifications are absolutely necessary for me. Can I tinker with something on the device? Or, do you know when this might be fixed?

Thank you,

Julia

Hello Julia,

Please try to type this:

Test task <remind today at 8pm>

within a task name through your mobile phone using our app (setting the reminder date in the nearest future) and let me know if you receive a push notification.

Best regards,
David

Hi David,

Thanks for trying to help. I tried this about 20 minutes ago — I added <remind today at 1:24 pm> in the task name itself. I tried it with the brackets and without the brackets. The words appear in the task name, and look like part of the name. I still do not get any push notifications.

Thanks,

Julia

I get push notications on my iPhone since I set mobile notifications as the default. But do you know when there will be sound alerts for the push notifications?

I really like the app - very much looking forward to sounds. Thanks!

Hello Julia,

We're sorry for the inconvenience, we're working on it now and there will be sound alerts for push notifications in the near future.

Best regards,
David

Hi Todoist Team,

I have the sme problem on an iPhone 5 iOS 6.0.1.
I just subscribed to Premium and i'm a little bit dissapointed because of the lack of push notification.

I tested with the phone out of sleep (while icons are visible on the screen) and the notifications are received if i use the "Send a test message" from the web.
The same test with the phone in sleep mode did not display any message.

We'are waiting for a solution.

Catalin.

Hello Catalin,

Please go to the web-app at https://todoist.com click on the gear icon in the top-right corner, choose "Settings" and go to the "Reminders" tab.

Make sure that your mobile device is listed here and try to choose "push notifications" as the default reminder method from the drop-down menu.

You could also try to add a reminder to a task manually by right0clicking on it, choosing "reminder" and setting it to "push notification". They work also if your device is in sleep mode.

Best regards,
David

Hi David,

The settings are the same as you described. My phone appears in the list. I added a task but did not receive any reminder.

Help question:
From the Settings -> Reminders i click the "Push notifications: Send a test message". Why do i receive the message only when the phone is awake ?

Catalin.

Catalin,

I'm unsure why the test message doesn't arrive when your phone is in sleep mode, but the notification itself should.

Please tell me - when you've added a task, what due date and time did you set to it? It must be at least 30 minutes into the future in order for the default "30 minutes before" push notification to work. Please try to add one task through the web with a due date "today at 14:00" (make the time at least 32 minutes into the future), then open the app on your iPhone and add another task, but here, type <remind today at 14:00> within the task name. Next, put the phone to sleep and let me know if you receive one of these notification.

Also, make sure that in Settings -> General in Todoist, you've selected the correct time zone and it's the same as on your phone.

Best regards,
David

Hello,

We've implemented a solution which has enabled sound notification for reminders. It's implemented on our end and works with the current version or the app so no upgrade is necessary.

David
