App keeps crashing

B

After I downloaded the app, I login and it keeps saying "couldn't refresh, Please try again later" and then crashes.

I have been fooling with it for a day or two, deleting my account and reinstalling (both from the Web and phone). Not sure if when I did this if I may have registered too many accounts or something.

Any ideas?

Hello Brian,

So, to clarify - you can login, but it then still crashes the moment you tap on the login button (or when exactly)? Or is the issue you're experiencing the creation of multiple accounts and you can't log into only some of them?

Are you online as you try to log in and does the issue persist if you delete and reinstall the app now?

Best regards,
David

I can login, as soon as it opens the main screen after the login in page I get the message from above and then it crashes.

I was thinking that the problem might be I accidentally created multiple accounts while I was testing the app, and messing around with it online. So I thought it might be too many accounts under the same login trying to work things out.

I have deleted all accounts and started over a few times - the web based stuff works fine, the mobile app continues to have this issue though.

Also, I put the windows app and it doesn't seem to be syncing with my account - I purchased premium and then windows version doesn't reflect this and doesn't seem to be syncing my tasks. I will try to reinstall the windows version and see what happens. I don't necessarily need that one though as much as the mobile app.

Hopefully that clears things up - thanks.

Brian,

We're unsure why this happens :( The only reason why the Windows app would neither sync, nor recognize your Premium status would be if you're logged into the wrong account.

Please right-click on the TD icon in the system tray and use the "Logout" option there (which will also clear the app's cache) and make sure you use the same login credentials and same login method (Google or manual) as you do on other platforms.

As for the Android app, please clarify - did you try to completely uninstall the app (now, not earlier as you were creating the account) from your phone and then, after reinstalling it, the issue still persist on an account that you can log into on the web? If so - how many tasks do you have on your account (approximately)?

David

Brian,

So, to clarify - you did uninstall and reinstall the Android app and the issue persists?

We will soon release a big update fixing multiple issues and introducing more features, it should address this one too, please let us know if it would persist after the update.

For now, please tell me:
- What version of Android are you using?
- What version of our app are you using?
- Do you have any custom ROMs installed?

Best regards,
David

I wasn't sure if I should start a new thread or chime in here, but I am having the exact same issue with the Android app. I have never had any issues with the online version, but when I open the app, I click on "Enter with Google Account" (same as I do with the online version), it logs me in, says "couldn't refresh, please try again later", and immediately crashes. I uninstalled and reinstalled once, but it did not help.

I have Todoist premium, Android v. 4.1.2 and the latest version of the app (downloaded 2 or 3 days ago). I do not believe I have any custom ROMs installed.

Thanks,
Laura

Hello Laura,

Thank you for this information, I'll pass it to the developers now.

Brian, could you please confirm if you're also using Google Login? If so, you could both try to log in on the web, go to Settings -> Account, set a password for Todoist and see if the issue persist if you use manual login with the newly set password.

Best regards,
David

I was not using a google login. I reset my password and experienced the same issue with the App.

I also tried to set my authorizations to connect to my google account, and then login with my google account on the app. Same error message.

I have Todoist premium, Android v. 4.1.2 and the latest version of the app.

@Brian - We're looking into it now.

@Laura - please tell me, did you recently delete your Todoist account and then created a new one using the same email address?

David

Just as an FYI - I did open an account and delete it a couple of times throughout this process (like what you asked Laura).

Each time using the same email address. Just in case that is causing issues.

I believe I did delete my account and create a new one with the same email. I'm not entirely positive, but I was trying out several different list programs, and I changed my mind a few times as to which one I wanted to go with.

I still get the "couldn't refresh, please try again later" message and then it crashes.

Is there a way to completely remove all data that I have associated with my gmail account and google accounts (in case i used the same email for two logins) and just try to restart?

Please clarify, since David said the issue is fixed, have you uninstalled or cleared data for the app and tried to log in?

Thanks,
Brendon.

Sorry I haven't replied sooner, but I also uninstalled the app and re-installed it, and am still getting the same error message with it crashing immediately after.

Brendon,

Yep, when David advised that the problem should be fixed, I downloaded the app and experience the same issues.

I delete the app immediately after I install it if it isn't working.

I also tried to change my password on the web app and then tried logging in with the new password and had the same issue.

It looks like everything updated to the new Todoist Next - looks great so far.

I am still having issues with the app though. I am not sure what the deal is but I still get the "Couldn't refresh, please try again later" message immediately after login that is followed up with the app crashing.

Let me know if there is a way to take care of this. Thanks.

Hello Brian,

Please tell us - what version of our app do you have now? Did you try to update it by uninstalling the old version first?

Instead of getting the "Couldn't refresh..." message it now looks like it just locks up and crashes.

"did you recently delete your Todoist account and then created a new one using the same email address"

the answer is YES.

Cool - just as an FYI I tried installing the iPad app and got an error upon login as well.

Said something like "unexpected error code 200-299, expected 403"

iPad is not as big of a deal to me as the android app but just wanted you to know - i assume it has something to do with my issues with the phone app too.

Isn't there a way to just see how many accounts are under and email or something and delete old ones?

Or would it be possible to just completely delete everything and start over?

Very sorry for all this trouble. We are still looking into this issue and hope to find one soon. In the meantime, you could create a new account with a different/new email address, and the issue shouldn't appear there.
