App not syncing with web

I started using Todoist this morning. I use the website and the Android app. Edits made on the website don't reflect in the mobile app unless I manually click the refresh button. Will changes not sync automatically?

Hi Harry,

Automatic syncing is a Premium feature, and without it you do have to manually press the sync button. Of course, there are many other great features that come with Premium :)

Thanks Brendon! I just upgraded to premium, so I'm looking forward to seeing my tasks auto-sync.

By the way I went looking this morning to see if auto-syncing was a premium feature, and filed this question after not seeing auto-syncing listed on this page: http://todoist.com/pricing

I'd have paid sooner if I'd seen it there. :)

Harry,

We do not list it because it's a bit different. When opening up the app it will sync new information, if you change the view it will sync new information. Though, if you are one a view (like Today) and leave it, it will not update unless you do something, or hit the refresh.

And to be clear, we don't list it directly for Android, but Automatic Sync is listed in the Premium options :)

Ah. So the home screen widget showing my tasks will not auto-update with new tasks from the website? :(

Harry,

The widget should indeed update automatically, did you have the app installed before upgrading? Please try logging out and back in again, and if that does not help, clear the data for the app and try again.

I just put TODOIST on my desktop... then added the android app to my cell phone.

I hit the refresh button on the cell phone but it didn't show any of the tasks I had entered on the desktop version.

Figured it out... it does show Projects, but not Tasks.

Hello Susan,

Please make sure you're logged into the same account on Windows as on Android, were online while adding these tasks through the Windows app.

If the issue persists, try to add one new test task to a project through Android and sync on Windows and then another test task on Windows and sync it on Android (while being within this project) and let us know if the issue persists or if deleting and reinstalling the Android app helps.

I have a similar issue.

I have a premium account. The edits I make on the Web are only syncing on my Android app if:
- I manually hit the sync button
- I kill the app and restart it, in which case it syncs up on start

If I just hit the home button, and then return to the app, the sync won't happen automatically, and I'll have to do it manually.

I tried to reinstall the app, clear the data on it, and still have the issue.

This is with version 2.0.8 on a stock 4.3 ROM.

Hello Hugoh,

Please confirm - you return to the home screen, then add a task or make a change on the web, see that the web syncs (top-right corner), then open the app again on Android, wait 2-4 seconds and it will not sync the changes?

Well, this is indeed what was happening.

However, now, it seems to work fine, and the widget even updates without needing to open the app.

So, it all looks good now.

I have the same issue as described here.

Syncing changes from android app to web is fine. But after adding a task on the web (showing the sync sign) and opening the android app nothing happens. I have to press the sync button manual.

The widget also does not sync without pressing the button manual.

After adding a task on android the task from the web app gets synced.

I just bought premium because of automatic sync so I hope there is a fix.

I tried reinstalling the app several times also with restarting my device.

Hello André,

We will indeed address this soon by introducing forced-sync (updates pushed from our server to the app and not pulled from it by the app) in the upcoming updates.

Thanks thats really nice to here. I discovered that the widget does auto sync but it need quite some time to do so. Other then that I'm really pleased with todoist.

Hello,

I just installed Todoist and noticed that it is not syncing with the app on my cell phone. PC to web is fine but to the app, it's not working. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

Hi George,

Please confirm if you are signing into the same account on mobile as you are on web. To do so, try logging out of all locations, and make sure to use the same method to sign back in.

Is it everything, or only cetain items?As there was an issue with notes, but it was resolved. Which mobile device are you using? If it is Android, try clearing the data for the app.

It is everything. I have a free version of Todoist to see if I like it so I can't do notes from what I understand.

I am on Android. What do you mean by "clearing the data for the app"?

Yes, I edited my comment after I saw you were on free. For Android, head into your Android Settings, Applications, and find Todoist. There will then be a Clear Data button for it. This does not clear your Todoist tasks or anything, just the data needed to run the app.

Once that is done, log back in, and see if the issue persists.

I just realized that there is a software update for my phone. I'm installing it now. Perhaps that's the problem.
