Why can't I download Todoist from the Amazon App Store

As a Kindle Fire user it would be nice to be able to download the Todoist app from the Amazon App Store so that I get the high res icon rather than having to side load from 1Mobile.

Would be great if we could download it from the Amazon App Store (UK).

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the suggestion. We will consider getting our app approved on the Amazon App Store in the future. Feel free to vote on this: http://todoist.com/Vote_Android/showProposal/78/

I'm not sure how frequently old threads are monitored, so pardon duplicate cross thread posts of this question. Is there a way to get the app apk file directly, to allow us to sideload Todoist on an Amazon Kindle Fire HD/HDX?
Unfortunately the Google Play store won't allow a download for us to try this on our own, but I'd like to get the most out of my subscription, and the web interface on the tablet browsers is almost unusable for me.

I managed this using the 1mobile app store. This worked fine on my Kindle Fire 2 so should be ok on the HDX as well.

I did notice in recent updates I would get warning about not having google play services installed but it still worked.

That said I have since rooted the fire and an very glad I did so.

I was able to copy apk file from my phone.
It seems to work on Kindle Fire HDX even if it says it would not work due to missing Google Play software.

Will it fully work without the Google software? I assume, the services are being used for in-app purchases.

Could this message be removed for Kindle Fire?

Why such a simple application has not been submitted to Amazon for approval yet?

Hello Michael,

We're looking into offering full Kindle Fire support in the future which will solve this issue.

Best regards,

Also wondering about this :)
I tried going to the proposal link above, but it didn't work. :(

I hope that Todoist will be available soon on the Amazon App Store as I use a Blackberry Q10 and BlackBerry just announced that it will be providing Android Apps via the Amazon AppStore soon.

Then you don't need to create a separate app for Blackberry 10 OS.

Hi Brendon,

I noticed that Todoist is available now in the Amazon App Store.

But it only supports android 2.3 onwards. Any plans to support android 2.2?

No, this would be very unlikely to happen. We normally have to choose certain versions based on what features they can support.

I understand, but the android app on Google Play Store supports android 2.2. So I guess it should also be possible on the Amazon store as well.

The reason I'm asking this question is because I would like to use the app on my BlackBerry 10 device. And the Android runtime only supports apps compatible with android 2.2 on BlackBerry 10.

I am sure there are reasons for this, though I will see if it can be changed.

Ram -
On the Google Play Store app, if you launch it, click Menu > Settings > About, what do you see? I'm running the latest Google Play version on my BlackBerry Q10, and I'm seeing "Version 5.1 (Android 4.2.2)".

Brendon -
1. The version on the Amazon Appstore for Android shows up as "a1.0.1" - is that on purpose? :)
2. For some reason the Amazon Appstore thinks my Q10 doesn't have the right version of Android for Todoist. Other apps (like Angry Birds) install just fine via the Amazon Appstore app. Let me know if we can help your team troubleshoot!

@Dave same for my Z10. I don't have it showing in Amazon Store either.

@Todoist it may be an idea to have a look at this as BB10 devices are getting official support for Android apps from the Amazon store later this year.

Right now I use the Android version but it relies on Google Play Services which pops up a window on launch moaning that I don't have it :)

@Dave - the Google Play version shows Android 4.2.2 like yours, but the problem is that on the Amazon Appstore you need a minimum version of Android 4.2.3. This is the reason why we can't install it via the Amazon Appstore

@Ram R - how interesting!

Now I understand what you meant by your earlier 2.2 vs. 2.3 comment.

I think I have the BlackBerry 10.3 developer ROM somewhere - that has Android 4.4 runtime, I recall?

@Dave - I just installed Blackberry 10.3 on my Q10. But I still can't install Todoist via the Amazon Appstore. Even though I have Android Runtime 4.3 now.

How did you install it on your Q10?

Ram, good info.
Weirdly I can install SOME apps via Appstore, but Todoist doesn't appear.

To answer your question, I used an APK downloader to grab the latest Google Play version.

Hopefully the app on Amazon Appstore gets updated soon? :)

What version are you running now? We will of course update the app at times.
