Reminder Notification Pop Up on Android Not Working

Good day

I'm not sure how it is supposed to work but I am under the impression that if I set a task with a reminder, it would pop up as a reminder on my Android device.

That is not what is happening. The only thing that is happening is I receive an email. Is that what is expected?

If not, could you tell me what I should see and how I can fix it?

I use multiple Android devices, not sure if this will cause issues.

Thank you!

Hi Tariq,

There are two things that I would like for you to check.

First, on the Todoist website, at the top right corner, please click on the "gear" icon to get to "settings". From there click on "Reminders" and that will bring you to settings for reminders and your devices.

That page should list your devices that are connected to your account. Make sure the devices you are using are listed there. You can also change your "Default Notification" setting here, between email or Push etc" This is probably selected as email since you stated you receive the emails. The important part is that your devices are listed, if they are not, logging out of the android app, and logging back in should add your device to the list. If you don't want the emails, you can set no default reminder, but your Android app will still do the Push Notification :)

Second, the important part, on the Android app, if you hit the 3 Dots (the menu) at the top right, and click Settings, and then Notifications, please make sure that this is turned on, and that "Display task notification" is selected.

Thanks,
Brendon.

Hi Brendon

Thank you for the steps. I have done exactly as you said and it seems to be working now. I do have 2 additional questions though:

1. In your steps, towards the end, you mentioned that "Display task notification" should be selected. I do not see this option on my Android device and wonder if this was a legacy option or something I am missing. My device is using the latest Play Store application so rather curious as to what you mean here.

2. When I see the notification in the notification bar and tap on it, it takes me to a list of tasks and I am not sure which task I was reminded off (especially when the task is rather long). is this by design? I was hoping that the reminded task would be highlighted or something so that I know that is the task in question.

Thank you and have a great day!

Hello Tariq,

1. To access this options, please tap on the 3-dot icon in the top-right corner, go to "Settings" -> "Notifications" and here you can toggle them ON or OFF in the top-right corner of this menu.

2. When you see the notification and you click on the name of the task (where it says "tap to open this task") you will be forwarded to the related task and this task will have its menu rolled out so you'll see the "Complete", "Postpone" etc. options below it.

Best regards,
David
