1 million tasks, new Launchy plugin and Gmail fix 10. february 2008
Even if our development has slowed down, you still seem to enjoy using Todoist :) We now manage over 1 million tasks! As I have stated before I am doing a new project now, but it's almost done, this means I will have time to improve Todoist in the future.
In this new project I have learned LOTS of things that will improve Todoist - both the backend and the frontend.
And now for something new: David Karlsson has done a really great job on a new Launchy plugin that works with Launchy 2.0!
Head to the info page and grab the new plugin.
Reading Gmail emails should again work.
Support only for premium 4. january 2008
Due to lack off time and increased popularity we have limited support for premium users.
Todoist development 20. december 2007
As you may have noticed Todoist development has slowed down. This is mainly because of a new (secret) project that we are doing.
But Todoist isn't forgotten. We will give it a lot of love in the near future!
iPhone development (hiring) 17. november 2007
Do you use Todoist, have an iPhone, have mad web-development skills and are interested in creating an iPhone version of Todoist? Then contact us.
Gmail support fixed 8. november 2007
Google has released a new version of Gmail that broke compatibility with Todoist's Gmail support. This new version is now supported and you can get the updates on the info page >> Gmail integration.
Firefox plugin is no available, i.e. you must install a bookmark in your bookmarks toolbar.
We are currently working on improving reminders, so they are much smarter and more useful.

Recurring syntax improved 30. october 2007
By popular demand Todoist now supports following recurring tasks:
- every 3 days: Every 3 days

- A Privacy Policy has been added.
Back in black :) 9. october 2007
As you may noticed we have been a bit idle, but we are active again! :)
The reason for absence is a personal one.
First updates are following:
- API now has getLabels, where you can get an users labels
- Print view now shows chains
- A number of reported bugs are fixed
Productivity chain 13. september 2007
I read about
Jerry Seinfeld's productivity secret some time ago and I thought he had a pretty neat idea. After some thinking I figured out that we could make the idea possible in Todoist :)
The idea is that you start doing something to create a chain and then you focus on not breaking the chain. Seinfeld used his "chain technique" to write a joke everyday. You could use chains to run every thursday, post on your blog every monday, eat 5 fruits every day, call your parents every weekend etc. We haven't had a chance to test if chains really makes us more productive, but we are going to give them a try, you should aswell :)
Like everything else the chain feature is really simple, the chains are here shown for a recurring task:
How to get started? Simply add !chain to the content of a recurring task - it's that simple :)
Next time you complete a task, a green mark will be added automatically. You can of course manually uncheck this mark if you haven't done the task.
Chain feature is for premium users only, but non-premium users can preview the feature 15 days from now.
Upcoming 11. september 2007
We have an exciting feature coming up! A hint can be found in this Lifehacker post (
Jerry Seinfeld's productivity secret).
Apart from this new feature, we are also working on improving the recurring syntax. Stay tuned!
Launchy plugin 6. september 2007
Launchy is a great Windows application that lets you use the keyboard to rapidly perform tasks such as launching applications.
Thanks to the hard work of David Karlsson you can use Launchy to rapidly add tasks to your Todoist projects! Head to the info page for the installation guide.
Full text search 4. september 2007
Another popular request was full text search. And now, premium users can text search their tasks. Some examples:
- q: peter: All tasks that have peter in their content
- q: doctor number* @home: Search after your doctors number
- q: fix, p1: You can combine full text search with other queries
Other great features are also around the corner.
Custom start page 4. september 2007
Thanks a lot for all the great feedback! We have collected your feedback and we will put your wishes up for voting.
A lot of your wanted a custom query as your start page. This little feature is now implemented. From preferences you can set your own custom query:
Updates and your wish 1. september 2007
- It's now possible to query after labels in the API and in the mobile version
- The interface for reminders has been improved
- Labels are now ignore case, i.e. @HoMe and @home are the same label
- Clicking on the logo displays your start query
- A number of bugs have been fixed
- Gary King has improved his backup script: due dates are included, you can include all your completed items and it's much easier to use. The script can be found at
http://www.kinggary.com/tools/todoist-export.php
Want to shape Todoist your way? Please answer these two questions via support:
- If you could add one thing to Todoist what would that be?
- If you could remove one thing from Todoist what would that be?
Backups and Firefox sidebar 30. august 2007
Gary King has created a simple XML export of all your projects and tasks. Simply go to
http://www.kinggary.com/tools/todoist-export.php?key=<API_KEY>. You can find your API_KEY in Preferences.
Bram Hubbell has notified me about a great Firefox hack. You can load Todoist Mini (the widget version of Todoist) into Firefox sidebar. This means that you can have Todoist open while surfing the web (could be useful for bookmarking eBay things that you want to buy).
It's pretty simple to get this to work:
- Open Todoist mini and bookmark it
- Go to Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks and locate the Todoist mini bookmark. Right click and go to Properties
- Check off Load this bookmark in the sidebar
iRemind released 29. august 2007
iRemind is a widget that can remind you about meetings, birthdays or anniversaries. It can remind you on email, mobile phone and Twitter. Currently only iGoogle is supported, but other sites may be supported as well if it becomes a success.
iRemind is independent of Todoist, i.e. you don't have to have Todoist login to use it.
We are also currently developing some nice stuff for Todoist. They will be released during next week :) Stay tuned!
Small fixes 24. august 2007
We are currently finishing a Todoist sidekick project. This new project will be released this Monday. After this we'll again focus on improving Todoist and making it even better!
Some small things:
- By popular demand default reminder can now be set
- An underline indicator has been added to labels
- Some small bug fixes here and there
Server issues 17. august 2007
Todoist's host is having network issues and Todoist may be down or slow. They are working at fixing these issues.
Update: Everything is running smoothly again.
Mobile phone and Twitter reminders 16. august 2007
We have extended reminders so you can get reminded on your mobile phone and Twitter!
Head to info page to learn more.
Label help has also been improved.
Colored labels 14. august 2007
I have pushed a little, but nifty update for premium users, it's now possible to color labels:
To color your labels:
- View your labels by querying after @
- Get item's menu by pressing on menu icon (
)
- Select the color from the menu
Firefox plugin updated 13. august 2007
David Karlsson's Firefox plugin has been updated, and you are advised to upgrade since the old version has a bug that queries Todoist every second.
You can install the plugin from his site:
SSL support 11. august 2007
SSL is a protocol that enables secure and encrypted communication. Todoist now supports SSL following places:
- Logins are done via SSL, i.e. your password isn't transfered in cleartext anymore
- Signups are done via SSL
- API calls can be done via SSL
- Premium users can use SSL for normal communication (just by pointing the browser to https://todoist.com)
Todoist Premium for 3$ pr. month 11. august 2007
Todoist Premium is already a success and we are pretty close to be a profitable product! Thanks for the support.
Some of you think that 5$ is too much and we do listen to your feedback. To make it easier to be a premium user, we have decided to drop the price to 3$ pr. month.
Those that have signed up for 5$ will of course get their money back, so they can get on the new cheaper plan.
Todoist Premium will in the upcoming days be extended with SSL support (extra security for those that use Todoist in professional environment) and SMS reminders. Stay tuned and thanks for the support!
Todoist Premium 9. august 2007
We are ready to launch Todoist Premium, a non-free version of Todoist which offers new powerful features. We begin with following:
- Reminders: Get reminded about a task on email, MSN or Jabber.
- Improved label system: An improved label system which offers ability to view all labels (editing and deleting of labels is also possible).
The free version will remain the same, i.e. no ads, no features removed and no restrictions.
Todoist Premium will be extended in the upcoming weeks, i.e. the two above features are only a start.
The price for Todoist Premium is only 5$ pr. month.
If you want to support Todoist and help it become even better, become a premium user :) You can upgrade your account from Preferences.
Sneak peak 6. august 2007
Me and Armin have been working hard on two new features. A sneak peak on one of them:
Sunday updates 29. july 2007
- It's now possible to see item's menu from all the views
- Sort by priority has been added
- getItemsById has been added to the API
- A number of small bug-fixes
The next Todoist update will be a bigger one and will happen during next week. Stay tuned!
I am not alone :) 27. july 2007
I am happy to announce that the very talanted
Armin Ronacher has joined Todoist.
I think we will pretty much blow the competition away.
We have already a new feature in store :)
Bug fixes 26. july 2007
- Login to mobile version works again
- Labels such as @next, @phone etc. now work
Reimplementing labels 25. july 2007
Wow, seems like a lot of you like labels :) I didn't think this was a that needed feature.
Anyway, I'll reimplement labels, so they work even better (without ruining the simplicity of Todoist). The current implementation is a nice hack, which unfortunately does not scale that well.
Labels are now added 24. july 2007
I am really happy to announce labels! Head to info page to learn how to label and query your items!
Other than that, some other great things are coming to Todoist.
Smarter notes 19. july 2007
Now notes are a lot smarter since you can view them from the query view.
If you on an item add a note:
Then you will be able to see it from the query view:
Actually, this functionality is generic, i.e. you can view an item's children directly from the query view.
Back from vacation 16. july 2007
I am back from vacation and ready to code :)
It's now again possible to send feedback.
On vacation 28. juni 2007
I am headed on 2 weeks vacation to Bosnia (and Croatia). When I come back, I'll work full-time on Todoist for a months time. I have some really nice things lined up, so stay tuned!
Because of vacation, I have disabled the feedback functionality.
Camino quick-fix 25. juni 2007
It's now possible to use CTRL+* key shortcuts in the Camino browser.
Mix queries 23. juni 2007
I have improved the query system so it's more flexible, some examples:
- p1, p2, tod, tom
- p1, p2, 7 days
- p1, 3 days, va
API has also been updated so it's more powerful (you can for example query after od, p1, p2).
Your style? 22. juni 2007
Firefox users can style Todoist. For inspiration you can check out these styles:
US dates 21. juni 2007
From
Preferences you can now select US date formatting (i.e. MM-DD-YYYY). An example is:
- Entering 5/10 @ 2pm will mean 10th of May at 2pm.
The new standard way of entering dates in Todoist is 5/10 instead of 5. 10 (the old way still works).
